I've got a few web design blogs lined up over the summer for some friends and family, who all want a website that is easy to update themselves. In the past I've always used Joomla, which is very powerful, but a bit over the top for what they want I think. My question is, is it possible to use wordpress as a CMS without much tweaking? And if so, how does it compare to say Joomla? Thanks
Wordpress can be used as a CMS using its page and custom fields. This requires some level of template coding too, there is no need to tweak the wordpress core and the database structure.
Yes, there are a number of ways to customize Wordpress as a CMS (make categories pages, or just make the custom pages your pages, etc.), but indianseo is correct, it's going to take some template changes.
Wordpress is a CMS (Content Management System) in one way or another. You can further enhance it by its plugins.
