I'm glad that pinging is automatic on wordpress. One less thing to do. I kept hearing from others (who are just copying what they heard from others--so they have no idea) to add more to that ping list, from 4 to 10 to 25 plus places to ping. I've already claimed by blog on technorati, so that ping would be redundant, would it not. I think pingomatic is already listed from the start. My question is this, how many should we really have on our ping list? When does it become redunant, does adding more and more to the ping list, slow down the posting to blog process? I really have no idea. What are your thoughts? Heidi
Pingomatic pings a bunch of other places for you automatically, so adding more pretty much is unnecessary. You can always check the sites that pingomatic pings and add any other that you'd like.
I always use Pingoat for my pinging needs, but that is all. I don't add any more to my list. Pinging services usually overlap in the places they ping. From what I hear, pinging them with multiple services may throw up a spam flag and they will quit accepting your pings.
Thanks for mentioning this. I wanted to add a bunch of pinging services but now I would not do that. And it totally makes sense that the pinging services overlap. Thanks.
I find alot of sites on the internet with big lists but i can never find a date on the sites is there any lastest list of working pings besides pingomatic? Also the Smart Update Pinger says it does not work after 2.0 any other plug in that do the same thing or do we not need it after 2.3?
Is WordPress 2.3 smart when it comes to pinging? I have problems because WP 2.2.3 does not seem compatible with Smart Update Pinger on certain hosts, like mine. I get this error message thrown up at me (seems to affect certain hosts) I tried searching for a similar plugin that will limit pinging to when we really want to post, and not when editing ....but could not find any. Seems a lot of people still don't realize the importance of such a plugin in order to avoid being banned by the pinging services.
