Does anyone here know how to add captcha for comments on a wordpress blog to prevent spam? Also, what is the easiest way to clear out comments awaiting moderation? I ahve a lot of them building up and it is too hard to do manually. thanks

I wouldn't suggest you adding captcha to prevent spam. People are sick of filling out same forms all over again. Also, to run it properly addition library might be required.

I think math comment plugin can be more productive.

You can check out math comment spam protection

If you persists with captcha, you can use cforms plugin

Try reCaptcha wordpress plugin, i was using it.
It reduced my spam upto 60%, but it is irretiting for normal users to enter code everytime they comment so i removed it
But the plugin is superb with nice tweaking options
