Oh joy, a bump of a months-old thread, filled with "me too" pointless poster magnets, on a topic that has NOT A SINGLE BLASTED THING TO DO WITH THIS AREA OF THE FORUMS!!!

Just saying. Remember when people actually used to talk about coding HTML in here?

Joomla is the first alternative to WordPress. I built lots of websites with Joomla and Joomla was originally the top CMS out there, back when WordPress was just a blogging platform. Joomla is still great CMS with lots of free addons but I got to admit WordPress has a larger community and easier for clients to figure it out.

Wordpress is a popular option for websites but I’m not so sure as far as an “e-commerce website” is concerned. Not to mention, the overall slow and lagging performance. There are a lot of other solutions in the market you can explore that specialize in e-commerce. In case you don’t want to go through the hassle of hiring a team to develop your site, you can go for hosted solutions that give you substantial control and are user-friendly.

You can look for a number of hosted solutions like Shopify ( as people have suggested above), StoreHippo, BigCommerce, etc. Choose one according to your own preference, whatever fits your requirements best. If you feel you can do much better than WordPress, give more details so you get specific suggestions.

    Thanks.

You could always try a headless cms, not that WordPress is 100% horrible - it just has some serious downsides as explained here: https://buttercms.com/blog/wordpress-alternatives-reasons-to-move-on

If you are using WordPress just for e-commerce website, There are amy other options available. You can use opencart or prestashop for your e-commerce needs.

Didn't Sony and Bloomberg get hacked not too long ago, even with their in house security code modifications?

In case anybody missed it, here's the list for WordPress Alternatives (in this thread anyway):
    BigCommerce
    CMSpro
    Drupal
    Headless
    JAMStack
    Joomla
    Magento
    OpenCart
    PrestaShop
    Shopify
    Squarespacem
    StoreHippo
    Webflow
    Weebly
    Wix
    WooCommerce
    Zyro

    So is that it hehehe.

With all the complaints about wordpress why don't you just rebuild it? Sounds like every ecommerce platform listed has it's own set of problems so why not just build your own?

I like to get my hands dirty and write/program in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, SQL, Python etc…
If I need a CMS – so that my clients can update features, create new product pages, I use “Perch” (see: https://grabaperch.com/).
In that way I have complete control of coding (no extra rubbish uploaded by WP etc… and no SEO blocking features like WIX) and my clients can safely add content.

For small projects, I use Joomla + Nicepage. Joomla is free CMS, Nicepage is not free but not too expensive.
For big projects, I don't use CMS. I build the solution based on AP.NET, HTML, CSS.

I would not find better words than you did. I have a client who decided to hire SEO company and the part of the deal was to build a website - in Word Press of course. This is an additional site. I maintain the main one. What client has is custom CRM and we send form submissions there directly. And when we asked the developer to do the same from the WordPress site, the answer was that he's not able to do it (read there is no WP plugin for that). Now I have to do that part and I have to do it in WordPress.

Why couldn't they do it? Sounds like they only had to write a simple plugin

Because their "developer" can only do plugins. He or she does not know how to code in PHP. And in reality this is not even doing a plugin, but adding few lines of code. People who know how to set up WP and add few plugins consider themselves developers nowadyas.

There are many alternatives, but with Wordpress you can build a really good website. In addition, we will find a lot of specialists who will help us with the website.

Not from my experience. In last 30 days I experienced:
    - WP "developer" not being able to do basic php code
    - WP hack on the website I took over.
    - WP site created for one of my clients (special deal) gets 8 on speed test
