Wordpress- add a Continue Reading button?

Im working on a layout for wordpress and i want every post i write for it to show around 5 6 lines of the post then have a Continue Reading button linking to the post? can anybody help me with this please?

 

lol i found out theres a more tag.. sorry.

while this is open is there anyway for it to do it it's self?

 

You can add it to the index.php under one of the loops.

This depends on your theme. Go to the theme editor when logged into the admin section and find the main page (index.php or main.php, etc).

 

In your index.php find "the_content()" and change to "the_excerpt()".

 

Thanks i found that one out but it dont show continue reading at the end it just shows [..] any ideas how i can add that bit and shorten the lengh of the post?

You may download Excerpt Editor from wordpress.org
It will handle the issue...even automatically.
