New features : * Atom feeds updated to Atom 1.0 * Preliminary support for Atom Publishing Protocol * Widgets are now supported in core * Protection against activating broken plugins * "Deactivate All Plugins" button. Sadly, my "Reactivate All Plugins" patch didn't make it into this release. Hmm i gotta update my site now. But first i'll edit WordPress on localhost to meet my needs . And yea need to check that if the 2 themes i've made work fine on this release or not.
If anybody upgrades report back to us. I hate being the first to jump in. Microsoft has made me gun shy for life. I get jumpy and paranoid everytime I hear upgrade.
I'll wait for few days and then upgrade to 2.2 last time I did and got few problems Guys please share your experiences of the new 2.2 here....
I was looking to update as well. I'm not sure what is the best way to backup my database. In the WP Control Panel, there is an export to xml option. Would that work or is this for something else?
I read that as an option as well, only thing is my host used an inhouse designed control panel. I'll have to check if it has a database backup option.
I also read that they finally "Idiot Proofed" it for me, so that you can't make code adjustments that will "break" the blog. That seems to be the most significant upgrade, at least for me
There are major code changes as well as security bugs fixed. 1. You do not have to make use of the Wordpress Widgets plugin. It comes built in. Most themes work with it. I see this as the beginning of a new generation of themes. 2. None of the Plugin errors can hurt your wordpress installation. As hmansfield here said - it is now "Idiot Proofed". 3. Wordpress now makes use of some jQuery features. It is a well-built prototype - still a little buggy in places, but Wordpress uses the non buggy parts to enhance its UI. Future versions are believed to bring on even more usage of this excellent prototype jQuery. Good Luck on everyone's upgrading.
I will be upgrading my site to wordpress 2.2 very soon, but wish to hear other's feedback about upgrading problem, because I am using multiple plugins as well as made some changes into the code myself. Those who have upgraded please post their experience at http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=333828 Thanks
www.johnchow.com posted some sidebar widget issues for this script and he changed it to previous version.. So you may wait
