wordpress 2.0 sucks

ok, my server has crashed like...8 times today all because of a huge boost of traffic to one of my wordpress blogs

    here's what i've discovered

the new fangled "caching" feature...sucks, it's broken and doesn't work

each "page" runs over 30+ queries. a single post page had about 38+ queries.

wordpress 1.5.2 had at the most 16 queries.

if you're thinking about upgrading don't, i'm unable to revert back to 1.5.2 and it blowwwwws...

upon more reading it seems wordpress 2.0 was hacked together and released. i say wait for 2.1 at least.

WordPress 1.5.x uses about 5x more queries than it needs to as well.

If I wasn't so lazy, I would make my own blogging software, because WordPress' guts/code is so inefficient, it makes me cry when I look at it.

i think we need to start a seperate blogging project, that doesn't suck...i'd be willing to help fund it [edit: and make money off it :p]

i mean seriously this blows, it limits the amount of traffic you can handle, because in all seriousness my server isn't a lightweight and it's failing.

if you get like 200-1000 uniques a day you're probably fine. but as soon as it starts jumping into the 10 thousands you're fucked.

i'm looking at movable type now as a temporary hold over

i was turned off by it initially because you have to pay, but you know what? maybe it's worth it...i mean vbulletin was as opposed to phpbb (shudder)

I had a site for a while that used a blog CMS call pivot. Seemed to produce straight html as the output.

Someone needs to make a super efficient/nicely coded PHP blogging system. Because if you don't, I'll do it someday and then the 10,000,000 free links because of it will be mine! :)

Yea . . .I haven't switched to WP 2.0 yet. I'm not too happy that it's causing problems. Do you think I should wait before upgrading or upgrade now?

I've upgraded a few sites and I'd say definitely wait.

SVZ - Thats sucks about Mandy Moore I was hoping me and her could get together when I visit cali next.

Shawn - If 10,000,000 free links isn't enough motivation I don't know what is;) - I'll help with the admin layout.

Could this possibly be a Firefox issue? I just received this notice about a Firefox issue with SMF that sounds related:

I have about 6 blogs that I need to make a decision about upgrading to 2.0 or not..

but I think I will stay with 1.5.2 for a long time...

I appreciate the coders trying to always add more bells and whistles to WP, but solid code, speed and usability are most important to me..

I upgraded a few test-blogs just to see what new and exciting features had been implemented, and I must say that I'm glad I decided to test it out first.
As a coder I do prefer to stay on top of what the text looks like in a 'raw format' (you know, adding titles to href and so on), but with 2.0 they've added a FCK-like editor, so it's like writing in Word.

I would be a nice option, but not a good default. Never got past it and decided to stay < WordPress 2.0...

Oh, and also - it screwed up my themes, so the test-blogs are back to 'default theme'. To be expected, but still not worth it in my oppinion.

Depending on who you talk to that's not an insult, but you meant bad, right?

Out of curiosity I upgraded www.propertyinvestor.info/articles/ and it was smooth as. Only plugins were bsuite (dropped) and akismet (retained) and the theme coped well with the upgrade.

A key driver was the wysiwyg editor which for my husband, with his evident enthusiasm for writing (not), is really important. I think it looks great!

However for my own blog which is plugged and hacked I'll wait a little longer...

I think the Ajax editor is better for the general populace but it's pretty slow so I've already hacked it up a bit.

Plus it seems to run even more queries to build a page which poses scalability problems once you get to 10,000+ visitors a day.
