How reliable is word-tracker KEI? If you find a keyword(s) with high KEI then should you definately go for it? Basically the reason I ask is because I found a keyword with KEI of 1,700+. When I search on Google for that term there are 77,000 results. The one which comes up first is PR3 and personally I think it's not very targeted at that word. The .com domain was taken (under a month ago - damn!) so I bought the .net domain today. Anyway I was wondering what everyones' thoughts on this was...
I'm very skeptical of KEI, in my experience it seems that it weights competition too heavily and doesn't take into account the kind of amount you might earn through ads. But 70k searches and a top domain of PR 3 seems quite good. Is the PR 3 page the root directory of that site or is it just a page on a larger site? If it's a single page then check out the domain's PR, that will be a much more helpful. Also what are the other sites in the top 10's PR?
Hey thanks for your reply. I totally agree - I registered the domain name and now I'm thinking of how to monetize the site. Anyway yeah the PR3 is for the root directory of the site! The other 10 sites range from PR5 to PR0. Hardly any of them are specifically for my keyword though and a large proportion of them are useless results considering the search term. It's not 70k searches btw! Lol that would be nice... Sorry there are basically: * 610 sites competing * 120 searches on MSN / day * KEI = 1700+ * #1 result for search = PR3 site * Top 10 results consist of sites from PR5 - PR0 but most aren't specifically for this term and some are completely useless. To me this sounds like a good term now that I've analysed it a bit more... But that said I'm not very experienced in all of this so I could just be being naive...
(sorry i saw 77k results and thought you meant searches) Well 120 at msn per day is about 3600 per month, which across all search engines would in theory be 36,000 which isn't massive, but if the competition is that low it might be worth a shot. If you made it to #1 on all SEs you could probably expect about 6-10k of that traffic come to your site per month. Whats your profit plan for this site? If it's Adsense or other CPC program then hit 'overture bid tool' and find out how much people are paying per click for that stuff. From there estimating you earnings shouldn't be too hard. (assume your CTR will be 1% - 5%) 36,000 is pretty low, so the maximum profitability of this site isn't going to be huge. Personally I wouldn't bother with less than 100k total searches unless the CPC payout was very high. But as I've said with so little competition it's almost certainly worth the time to do it.
Well my specific keyword wasn't very good! Lol - max click of $0.1. However if I make it slightly more general by removing one part of the keyword the max / click is $0.75 which isn't bad at all. Anyway I'll give it a go since the summer holidays are coming up for me! (I'm a uni student)
