Word Clouds: Are they worth it?

I have seen quite a few word cloud sites selling links here on DP. Never heard of "word clouds" before seeing this.

Was wondering if it was worth setting up a word cloud to sell links & how do people go about building up the PR for these Word Cloud sites, do they buy links? I don't think it'd be worth it if they did.

I don't think serious people are buying links from such sites. Google is removing paid links from their index, and I guess those cloud sites would be really easy to identified by big G

I used to buy alot of paid links, and it worked great. Got me from PageRank 0 to 5 in one update. But not that Matt's been talking about taking action on paid links, I won't be doing it anymore..

They are a ripoff, theres no incentive for the owner of the domain to renew it after it expires since all links are sold and no more profit can be made from the domain.

An those are the ones that dont have fake pr...

IMO, there's too many factors to say whether word clouds are good or not...

It depends on the particular site and if the words/phrases are relevant to the content of the site.

Many word clouds are just generic BS, but if they are targeted to a real conent site with real traffic, they can be beneficial to both parties.

Anyone have an example of a word cloud that has been up for more than a year?

Even if they aren't getting ignored by google, I doubt that a site with hundreds of links on one page would be passing very much PR, and you're highly unlikely to get any traffic from the link.

So no, I don't think they're worth it.

I agree...However, they don't have to have hundreds of links. Nor do they have to be on totally "generic" pages with no signifigant content.

This forum could easily use a word cloud to sell sponsored words that are relevant, that could be beneficial for all...

Again, I do agre that most word clouds are nothing more than meaningless spam links on "nothing" pages, but it doesn't have to be that way...

I was actually talking about people's opinions on starting a word cloud site. I was wondering if it was really worth the effort of setting up the site. I didn't think so.

WC? Nothing to me - I've got one link from this kind of sites for free and I think even that was to much. Loosing my time.
