Hey guys. I just recently started playing guitar, and I'm working in singing. Any DPers here also play? Can you give me some advice and constructive criticism? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORgrn8jLsAo
I don't play guitar, but I do sing, and I know that singing while playing is very hard ... I have trouble keeping a tambourine on beat while I am singing, lol... I would suggest practice singing without playing first to find your voice and when you do so, try to feel the song so you can express more emotion in your voice. You don't have to necessarily feel the actual lyrics, but feel something and it will likely come across in the words you sing ... good luck and good job!
Good song selection. Oasis is brilliant. You have the chords mostly right (kinda), but the reason it sounds so poor is because you're strumming is way off from the actual tune. I reckon you view some video tutorials on youtube for Wonderwall that teach the strum pattern. One you've nailed that and can do it without thinking, then you should try to start singing. But for now, it will be VERY difficult for you to select chords, strum, and sing when you don't have the strum down yet. Good luck
Yep, I would say listen the original track VERY closely and pay attention to the timing of the strumming pattern. Get that down so you can strum along EXACTLY with the cd (or cassette or 8 track or whatever). Get it so close that you can barely tell you're playing along. Next put the guitar down and sing along with the tune. Watch the timing again...breathe in when he breathes in and pronounce the words exactly like he does (pay attention to vowel sounds and starts and stops of words). Again get it as close as you can to the recording. Easy part is over. Pick the guitar back up and strum through it and sing along. Don't get discouraged if you felt like a rockstar after getting the guitar and vocals down separately and then it sounds like poop when you try to play it together. This part is hard than many people let on and the only way to get it is to keep hammering away at this and MANY other tunes. High 5 for having the guts to post it. You're doing awesome.
