Hey guys! This is my first post and I have a few questions. I know these are prolly answered somewhere else so don't yell at me :) it is just that as I read to try to find answers I run across other info that distracts me and then I am trying to learn more about that subject so I never answer my original questions. I was researching for about 12 hours straight yesterday and by the end was PI$$ED off because I set out to learn about keyword research, seo, etc but by the end I was trying to get WP to work on linux with no luck and thought to myself " Self this is the cart before the horse" so I am trying to get back on task today. Sorry for the long explaination but maybe now you can feel my pain lol
    Questions
    1. Is using wordpress.com blogs feasable for high ranking? Maybe like for an affiliate landing page?
    2. what about the free sites like www.yourname.theirname.com?
    3. If you buy a domain will it rank faster than the same domian but with .wordpress.com or .theirname.com?
    4. I have gathered that my target is 1500-8000 global monthly searches for keywords. Sound about right for a n00b?
    5. I also read that .com .org. .net will climb faster than the other options, true or false?

Hmmm, guess that is it for now. I want to thank you guys in advance for any help you could give me

Hello I'll try to answer a few of your Qs.

    1. Not sure about how wordpress.com works but I don't see why you can't rank high using that platform as long as you do the seo and back linking ok (just like blogspot)
    2. You should be fine here. Plenty of people use blogspot to get started. Just remember blogspot and other free sites can pull the plug on you if they feel the need to.
    3. I don't think it really makes a difference but it's always better to have your own domain not just for ranking, but for branding your site.
    4. Depends on the niche and competition for the keyword. If the 1500-8000 is exact match searches than that seems good, but check the other two factors (niche, competition)
    5. This is true from my experience. I starting to here .info and .co are starting to climb faster.

Hopefully this helps a bit. I'm sure some seo experts can maybe explain things a little better.

Well, I kinda answered one of my questions. I was working on adding a clickbank link to my blog on wordpress.com and clicked the link to test it. Guess who rerouted it and slapped my wrist? Also, I am going to use kompozer to build my sites I guess. I know that wordpress is a lot more functional and more accepted but I have literally spent hours to try to get it to work to no avail. Kompozer loaded and is working, is open source and I haven't found anything it doesn't do. Once I get my feet wet I may need something woth more flexiblity but for now I am just tryign to hone in on some keywords, build a few simple monetized sites then run it up the flag pole. Linux is very different from windows and for the most part it blows windows out of the water. But in other areas it makes me wanna throw my laptop across the room lol

Buy a .com domain. Buy a hosting. Then using your global monthly searches database, choose a niche wisely (like web hosting for instance). Then, create a blog powered by wordpress. You are good to go. The free sites, or subdomains of pouplar are actually not that helpful.
