Wondering About Sub Domains

If I register a domain with GoDaddy, can I register as many sub domains as I want for free with them? Also, how would I go about doing it? I am currently using Netfirms as my host and that's where I register my sub domains, but I'm not sure if there's a limit.

Also, is it bad to have multiple sub domains on your site? Although this is a poor example, MySpace uses sub domains for almost everything, which I am guessing is bad because I think it requires more http requests, but I'm not sure about this.

Thanks for any help in advance!

The sub domain registration is a feature of your HOST account not your domain registrant account. If you also host with Go Daddy you can add unlimited sub domains - but almost ALL hosting accounts allow you to do this too. Host Gator is a very popular system - they have Great tools - Very reasonably priced... www.hostgator.com - They use a Linux server - connected to a control panel that you can log into and set up as many sub domains as you wish...

since it is a Linux box the sub domain will always precede the actual domain name.

    ie
    Main Domain = www.Library.com
    http://books.Library.com
    http://Magazines.Library.com
    http://Fees.Library.com

ALSO - remember that when you use a sub domain - do not use the www. in front of the address.

Bad? in what sense? i have never heard of it being bad... it could be more confusing from a marketing vantage point - but it sure beats paying for tons of domain names if you don't need to.

From search engine perspective, a sub-domain is considered independently from the main domain. So if your main domain is 5-years old, then create new sub-domain, then this sub-domain is considered as a fresher by Search engine.
