    Hi,

I have a shocking story to tell ya, not a bad story, it is actually a FUNNY story.

At the moment, we are having constant lightening storms in our area every night.

On friday, however, something more serious happened.

My mum warned me about bad weather outside and said there was lightening. I pulled my cable out of my laptop around half a second before...A lightening bult hit the ground - 1/4km away.

First a flash, then a bang, electric went out.. Then a second bang (not known why this happened, until i asked a neighboor). The bangs shook the windows, but we had no damage to our house.

I was like... Shit, that was close.

But it wasnt that simple. More damage happened than what usually happens.

    1. Power went out.
    2. Water pressure fell VERY FAST. (explain what happened here later)
    3. A lane was closed
    4. Around 3 different services which have to cof up cash for the damage.

    1. We live 1/4 from a resevor. (1/2 from were the lightening hit) They had to restart the equippment
    2. May guerny, water board contracters fixing the 3-foot whole in the lane were the lightening hit a iron water pipe to our village
    3. Electric company coming to fix electic (this ment power was off for 5hours.)

Anyway... Lets continue with the story.

We had candles and were partually prepared for the issue. I dragged out a 850watt generator... it started but kept cutting out... So we had no electric.

many people in the village have problems with their modems, computers and equippment, and i know how close i was to damaging a £1200 laptop... 1/2second!

Well... This was one of the most SHOCKING events so far this year. I doubt this will happen again this winter, but the storms appear to be dormant at the moment.

Welcome to life in Florida. We have the same issues, only more frequently.

Water pipes have good grounds. The well next door got hit recently and we had breakers pop here in the house. My neighbor had to replace a bunch of electonics. I got lucky.

But I was home and it scared the hell out of me! hehe

This is the first time this has ever happened were we are. Honestly, i have never seen thunder and lightening before in my life this powerful ever before.

It just isnt normal here to have such bad weather in Cornwall.

reminds me when i had a job at a computer store in a quite small city with 3 more computer stores and a few large retailer in that area. so i asked this owner "how can a small business in this small city survive, you always do 200-600$ in repairs/day?!" - and his response was:
"i have 3 good friends: spyware&malware, stupid users and lightening storms..." :D
