Hey guys... do we have to take in consideration both our blogger addresses, when it comes to optimization... I mean the address that has the www. infront of it and the one that doesn't.... I have pagerank of 3 in my blog's address that doesn't start with the www, but when I add the www. I get page rank 0.... how important is this, and should we take it seriously?
Well I've always preferred having the www. before my address, and so have many other SEO pros. As far as SEO is concerned, there is no difference. I would set up a 301 redirect from one to the other so that all PR is transfered to that preference.
If you have page rank 3 without WWW then you should stick with this without WWW format in link navigation and during link building process. and set up 301 redirection - With WWW version to Without WWW.
I'm pretty sure that even if he redirects to the WWW. the PR will transfer. Don't take my word on that though.
Redirect one to the other and build your links to that. You also have an option at Google to specify which one you'd prefer
It took me six months with a 30o1 redirect from a high PR non-www site to get the PR moved to the www site. But the process is worthwhile.
Use the www. People tend to link to http://www.domain.com rather than http://domain.com Also if you have shopped for ssl certificates you would know that it's "standard" to issue the certificate to www.domain.com rather than domain.com Point being www. is more likely to receive unsolicited backlinks than non-www.
Both cases (with vs without www) should be fine with SEO. But you have to make up your mind and think which of the two is more popular (or preferred). Redirect the other and build your links so they point to the more popular domain. Canonicalization involves picking the best among several URLs that display the same content and consistently using it on internal or external hyperlinks. Yes, consistency is the key.
IMO, doesn't matter, whichever you choose though, make sure you add a code snippet on your base page that will redirect everyone coming in through the opposite to the normal standard you choose. EG: redirect all coming in from domain.com to www.domain.com, or the opposite, depending on your choice.
My www. URL has a better PR than the non www. URL so I use a mod_rewrite to redirect all links to the www. URL
Thanks for the replies guys... I think the answer is to redirect... I found a detailed post about that, where Michael is facing the same problem... you can find it here: http://www.selfstartersweeklytips.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=16087 and so I asked Teli my question, to see if it also applies to blogs as well...
