With or without hyphen (-)

domainname.com or domain-name.com: this is a well known basic issue

For SEO it doesn't really matter

With: easy to read but difficult to type...

On a marketing point of view, is it better with or without hyphen? What is better for branding?

What is easier to remember? What is confusing? What is not?

For visitors is it better without the hyphen?

100% of the time i would say without the - is better, to remember and looks better.

I would buy them both if i thought the site was gona be big tho ;)

For marketing branding purposes, definitely without "-" due to type in URLs

Of course (and I always do) ;)

But which one to use? It looks like webmasters prefer without hyphen...

In many domain buying or flipping guides it is always recommended to skip the domains with hyphens. Personally I own a few domains with hyphens and do not see an issue.

Yeah, without is the way to go.

    Think about these, much better without hyphens;
    my-space
    face-book
    goo-gle :D

The hyphen can be in issue when you are verbally marketing a dn. Have you ever heard people giving out an address on the radio? It makes it more complicated when they're like "visit www dot american dash autos dot com"

I second Amedia's point. If this is a domain that will be advertised by any verbal commmunication, having a hyphen is awkward. Can you imagine telling someone on the phone, go to my website "www dot best hyphen/dash widgets dotcom."
In fact I'm looking at starting a new venture and my preferred domain name is not available and rather than get some hyphenated version, I am finding some completely different keyword in my keyword phrase.

I'd prefer to use domain names with hyphens, yes it is easier to read it you have a few words in your domain, but do people really want to type - most people are lazy and would just rather to type the words without spaces. By all means if you want to use hyphens do so, but personally, i wouldn't

last time i did attend a marketing course, i remember search engine recognize the keyword with hyphen rather than space, of coz, for domain name, without hyphen is much better

I won't buy a domain name with hyphen unless there's no choice..

Sometime hyphens help to distinguish keywords in domain name.

it can create a great confusion for some domain names like GoodsExporter.com or GoodSexPorter.com ;) so in this case try to separate them by using hyphens ;)

    I agree with that entirely...

without the "-" is always better.. but i have a ton of names with the "-"

Some because the name without it was already taken... and some because I owed the one without it but they were important sites and wanted to be sure i had both..

Well, let's put it like this: What was the last popular website you saw with an hyphenated name?
