With a PR of 2, it seems i dont get enough traffic from google.

I made a website last year in june, its http://portlandsauto.com, so far i only have a PR of 2. Its been like that since last year and my organic traffic from google search engine is really low. Last month was around 700 visitors. is there something im not doing right? Is there something that i can do to get more traffic?

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

There's also something that you can do...

Check out your competition and check out their backlinks.
Then you must make sure that you build more backlinks than them for your site.
    :)

You're not even #1 for "portland auto" so you have a lot of work cut out for you.

Getting a PR is no guarantee to getting visitors from search engines. You got to concentrate on achieving good serps to get better traffic from search.

What are you trying to get traffic for? i.e. what keywords (search terms) are you targeting?
And how realistic are your expectations?
I see that it's specifically a site for Portland, Oregon - how many people in Portland are looking for cars online?
Also, according to yahoo you only have about 78 backlinks - that's really not very many.

sure , what is ur niche ? try to build tags on others keywords .. for example if u run a WEB DESIGN blog , you can play with the keywords like : web design California ( for example ) , this way you dont compete with the others in a direct way

I think less people search for your keyword and hence you get less traffic :)
Try using adwords tool to check how many people search for your keyword every month, and if possible try to improve SERP

Rather than PR, back links will work out for getting more traffic. Try this.

Forums/ Joining social networks are accumulative to getting quick traffic that might stay depending on your site and it's content. Getting backlinks is to tell search engines that you want to rank for a specific keyword. Do you research and find a keyword that is low competitive with high visitor rates. Then you can get quick results with SEO.

Don't worry about PR it's not related with traffic and keep in mind that 700 visitors per day it's not bad. :) Some people have less traffic than you.

You should see if you can improve basic seo skills in your website and build backlinks outside the web.

Basic seo skills in the website:

    - Keywords on the title (only the keywords like cars, auto, portland ...)

    - H1 h2 h3 tags

    - keywords density on articles

    - Use tags like: b, strong, i, in some parts of the text.

You need to revise your keywords. Choose the ones that are less competitive but with good search volume. Do tons of social bookmarking and networking to boost your traffic.

Your title is far too long and needs to be shortened to something like Used Cars Portland. Do that and you definitely see an improvement in Serps!

Actually PR is just one of the factors that determine the search engine ranking, there is still other factors affecting it. So, don't bother too much for the low PR.

If you really want to increase the PR, you may buy more related high PR links.

The effect of PR in bringing traffic and influencing the SERP, if at all any would be minimum. You need to build up good contents, get niche related quality backlinks and do seo to be in good books of the major search engines.

I agree, pr isn't all that is involved. I just hit front page of Google today for "new computer games" and only have a PR 2.

Make your title short and to the point. Use your meta description for details.

I believe Google also has a way to identify your business as a "localized business". Some of the other people here may know more about this.
It shouldn't be that hard to rank for a local business with a bit of planning.
