Is it wise to submit real name, address, email for Directory submission ?
or would you be spammed most of the time ?

I always give my real details and submit to the directories owned by DP members - Value Directories and have seen any spam from them. :)

I like to see real names and good email addresses when I review sites on my directories.
When I see names like "bally234" "eatme" "wtf" etc, those are automatically deleted.
When email address used bounces back to me, or want me to go to spamarrest or some such site to okay, I delete the links.

I am pretty sure most directory owners are the same.

For small directories i never will give my real name and email because of fear of spam, to me it just isnt worth it.

A directory does not need your real name and such...of course you need to provide a valid email address so make one address for directory submissions and you can manage any spam in one place.

I've always used real name and email, I've never been asked for address, but I always go for the free links. I haven't experienced any spam yet, so I think it's safe to say you can trust most directory owners.

Occasionally you do get heaps of email from directories. Jayde is an example of a directory that will put you on a mailing list for several newsletters automatically. It's the minority of directories that do this, but if you're submitting to a lot at once you do need to be aware of it.

What I usually do is create a directory submission address, so that my main one doesn't get inundated if someone does decide to spam. I don't think there's any harm in giving your real name, and I don't know of any free directories that ask for an address.

For the past month or so I've only been submitting to directories advertised here on DP.

The cynic in me worried about spam and so I created an email account for each domain to use exclusively for directory submits. I don't know which directory (oh I wish I did, for I would certainly share), must have gave it out because I started getting real crap a few weeks ago. The Nigerian scam, several messages with attachments and a variety of obvious junk.

In some ways I hope this information was somehow harvested from the site and not the work of a DP member. Either way is bad, but I would hope a member here wouldn't be doing stuff like that.

I had been giving my full name, now I just give my first. That was until one of the directories I gave it to posted it.

The only place I give full info to is regional directories where there would be some merit in someone knowing I was located nearby. The other exception being a site that is an established source such as a trade organization or magazine.

Overall, considering how many places and directories I've given these addresses, the spam has been quite minimal.

    Stiffed again by Amit :(

In the past I have created a gMail account for each submission run (and hence each site) just for tracking purposes. There seems to be no where near the amount of Spam there used to be resulting from submissions.

Email spam is crap, most directory owners are in the same boat as everybody else and hate to see it in the inbox. Therefore, most...not all will respect your personal information, including your email.

Isn't this why throwaway email addresses were created? (hotmail, Yahoo, etc.)

Real info, but if the throwaway starts getting too much spam I just trash it and start over.

One or two directories won't accept a submission unless the email is from the same domain, so you still need to create a new address on your domain, even if it is throwaway.
