Well, I just got clued into something even more chilling. Apparently the FBI is currently listening into every single phone communication that goes on in America, using keyword sifting software, then some of these conversations are forwarded to human listeners... and they seek warrants for it retroactively. However in my understanding FISA only allows retroactive warrants in 'emergency conditions' and only on foreign communications.
Big Deal...they have been doing it for years....does it personally affect you? Do you get your panties in a wad over it? and finally, who really cares??
Does it personally affect me? Well, I make phone calls, so yes. I don't wear panties, so I'll have to skip to the next question. Who really cares? Me for one.
I'm currently researching FISA and reading up on the actual text of the bill post Patriot Act, and was wondering if anyone out there had any links to the full text of the bill before the patriot act, or had done any other kind of research regarding the bill.
So... I want to research what the government is doing and your response is (paraphrased, I'll admit) "who cares, the government says it'll make me safer, so I'm for it". Great. I'm going to at least attempt to do the research to see if I believe if it will make the country safer, and if so by how much, and to see if it will impinge upon our freedoms, and if so by how much.
Prime suspect indeed: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=264895 Based on his last post in this thread, he probably still doesn't care.
Ug. Look, if some people out there don't want to protect their rights, that's their choice. But I'm going to at least attempt to protect mine, since if the government isn't doing it, they aren't doing their jobs.
*Groans and rubs at my temples.* The majority of people have things that they don't want others knowing about, even if it's not based on fear of prosecution. Why is it so hard for some people to understand that to want to protect one's right against search and seizure doesn't necessarily mean you've done something wrong?
I don't think for d16boy, this is an ideological question, he simply enjoy the search specially the body cavity search.
the problem with the american people is that they don't realize that the federal govt branches (like CIA and FBI) have been doing this for a long time...thanks to the freedom of information act, we are just now finding out about it...where was this argument in the 1980's? It didn't exist, although you can easily find situations where big brother was listening in...they always have, they always will...big deal.
I don't know where the argument was, but I know where I was. In my childhood where 'government' was as nebulous and incomprehensible a concept as 'true suffering'. Even if 'they always have been' illegally, they only 'always will' if we allow it.
