Hey guys, I am having problems going on the internet all the time at home, so now I figured out a stable connection on my laptop through my iPhone 3G. Its like wireless broadband, so quick. 1.2mbps/86kbps upstream/downstream. Using the program PDAnet on a jailbreaked iphone.
lol you can send your iPhone internet signal to your lappy and surf on the lappy ? Do you have to pay for the iPhone connection? if not that will be so COOL! I get free WiFi access at home if I could do that I am getting free internet for free lol.
...This is an intriguing idea. I'll have to mention this to my husband; he'll find it interesting for sure.
3G isn't as fast as you think, at least around here. it can be done, but I would rather use the phone
Yes as others have said, watch out for that phone bill. No one offers truly unlimited data access, most of them cap out data at 5 GB a month or so, and after that the data rates become outrageous. My neighbor is a manager for Verizon and once he had a kid who was using his cell phone for all his data access and was using BitTorrent non-stop. At the end of the month he had a $26,000 USD bill!
hi my friend surfs on the internet using his phone and going through his laptop ,he buys prepaid so no unexpected phone bill, not always a fast connection though
Do they charge in that way? I thought it's unlimited. One of my friends has iPhone and internet on it I think it's 3G. She could server everywhere on the road as long as it's in range, and she said it's unlimited but cost her $70+ something a month (internet & phone) on her iPhone. If they charge you by how much you use, it isn't a good idea but a smart idea, I have to say. Don't try to compete with the $26k one I need an iPhone too ...!
My phone bill is like 39.99 per month for voice plan 450 minutes, (free cell to cell + 5000 night/weekend). And then 29.99 for "unlimited data". So that totals to like $70 + maybe some taxes on top of that. They say its unlimited data, but AT&T forbids you from tethering to a laptop in some stupid fine print burried in their website. I think if they find you using more than 5gb bandwidth in a month they will get pissed. If you think about it, there's only so much you can do with an iPhone or a phone in general, you can't really do video conferencing, so using 5gb is probably plenty for checking weather, a few maps, email, and normal internet surfing. One idea might be to test AT&T out. Use my data plan as usual, then by the end of the billing cycle, check online my bill and data usage, and then download like crazy to go slightly over the 5gb cap, and see what they do.
