I have a client who wants to do business, transferring money directly into my bank account. He is in the US and I am in Australia.

Is there a safe way to do this? What is the best way to do it?

You should be able to do it with a bank draft through your bank (wire transfer). Contact your bank to learn how money can be wired directly into your bank account.

    There could be several.

    1)- PayPal
    2)- Western Union
    3)- Credit card

Depends what is the safest and most reliable option for you.

Is there anything that can go wrong with wire transfers? Anything I should know about?

There shouldn't be a problem as you are basically moving money from bank to bank.

If the bank in the U.S. says the person has money and your bank in Australia recognizes that you have a valid account, then the monies should be deposited into your account, minus a fee, without a problem.

If it were a check, I would say, "no thanks."

There shouldn't be any problem in wire transfer. The sender will need your name, your bank's name, your bank's SWIFT code, IBAN or simple bank account number, Interbank code (Branch code) and money will be in your account within 3 business days after he send it.

Wire transfer is the safest way IMO. Though it's the slowest. :)

Thanks so much guys :) Is great to know that it should all be fine then. Was a tiny bit worried that it might be a little scammy.. I know, am ashamed for thinking it - but I am getting increasingly cautious about dealing money online...

The problem is not about dealing online.
The problem with wire transfer is that you should count in 100% on the seller.
    Anyway, good luck!

Who can you trust 100%!! There are very few people that you can trust to this extent and that really narrows your circle of business opportunities :)
