Winzip question: Zipping remote files

Ok, I know I can pass a UNC to Winzip, and it'll zip the files just fine. My question is whether the zipping occurs locally after transfering the unzipped file or remotely before sending the file. What I really need to know is am I saving any time/bandwidth when accessing a networked share on my LAN and zipping the files before copying them to my drive. If winzip is transfering the unzipped file to my local machine and then zipping it, I'm not saving any bandwidth and wasting a few seconds of my day. I and my coworkers have to grab files from remote machines several times a day (20-30 times each), so even shaving 5 to 10 seconds off the process (by eliminating the steps of zipping and unzipping the files), the time savings in a week becomes measurable: an hour or more each week!

Seems like you could test it fairly easy by timing how long it takes to get file, zipped vs. unzipped, maybe get an average across a few times to help rule out other traffic on the network, etc.
