Hiya guys,

I've been testing the Google API to try and enhance search experience with my own tweaked version Wingdude Search

Main Features are:

1. Flash MP3 Player
2. BBC Latest News Ticker
3. Links open up in a new window
4. Modified color scheme

Please tell me what you think guys

looks ok now on firefox <?> very smart, simple and crisp. the streaming music is a nice touch.

This project was one of the main ones i am doing now for work experience using PHP to parse the search results and dispaly them.

Cheers lol, I was editing it in Notepad because I was on a laptop without Dreamweaver MX 2004. lol I tried to align it right, and it went to the left...
But I worked it out after a bit.. thanks for your comments people, it really helps

 

Sorry to double-post guys but I just added an extra feature. it shows a little Loading Box similar to Google's Gmail option but on the centre of the page while it populates the results and loads the Adverts. Please check it out and tell me what you think of it.

The site looks much better on my 22" screen at work... I was looking at it on my iBook at home last night. Not a small iBook, the 14" screen. I've got my screen rez to the max, and the streaming window is still truncated a bit. Just an FYI, on some smaller screens it is still going to chop off part of your content

Other than that looks great!

 

Thanks for your comments, at the moment I am in the process of making a deal with some small business companies to brand that Search Engine with their own logo, add a sitesearch feature as well as changing the MP3 player to a bookmark list application. Do you think I should ask for money. I already have my own Google ads there so i'm not sure.

I really like the site. But, IMHO it is a violation of the google API TOS. And if you were to charge anyone for it ... well that would be a double violation.

One thing that is very *magical* about what you've done is the ad targeting. It is spot on for every search I did. I thought the first time adsense displays on a page it is usually off the mark .. sometimes even with public service ads, etc.

Did you do anything special to get the targeting so perfect?

 

You need to have.. more. Atm it don't have that much over Google.

 

yeah thts very true, now I am actually completely rewriting the code with ajax to have google suggest algorithm as well as news feeds which you can show and hide.

 

I'm using explorer and it looks message up if I don't allow your active x to run.

 

The flash bit is off screen on a 15" TFT on 1024.

TOS Violation was also something that crossed my mind but I'm sure you checked it.
And besides that, did you get right to those music files?

Besides the negatives, it does look good. Must have been an interesting learning experience.

Hmmm, no problems for me.

I will say this though. The page is still a bit our of whack using FireFox on a Mac, with a screen rez of 1024 X 768. The "streaming" window sort of floats right of the page to the right. I can see most of it, but about 1/3 of it is off the screen.

 

Yeah thanks for this guys, although I am not too sure about how I am going to squeeze the Music Player Narrower. I could completely compact it which is something I am debating.

Also, those are apparently 'freeware' mp3 files I got off a site, who has a nice privacy policy so...
