Windows 7 does the trick and it is fairly fast, the problems you are having with speed could also be your hardware not just your OS, so consider that before you try flaming Windows 7.

Windows 7 is fine, but I think sometimes people overrate it, Microsoft can do better now (they have hired very talented people). It's not like 90's or 2001, now you just have to stay away from facebook viruses
i have a few friends that use windows 7 and they have nothing but great things to say about it. if you're having problems with windows 7 its probably a hardware issue.
hootoo.com, maybe you should try another version. After all, Microsoft is really good. I have never had with it any problems. Give it another chance. Try XP.
Windows 7 is pretty good, however when its installed in most cases you get to use the microsoft's version of the video-card driver which is an old one, like 1yr+ old, therefore installing the newest driver would speed up everything, including online-video and browser speed (if uve got many tabs with websites which have flash/image banners). But, the thing is if you don't have atleast 512 mb video-ram your webmaster life can become pretty bad. due to windows 7 having features such as AERO and many other shiny things which require video memory, i won't recommend it to people having less than 256mb video-ram
The problem is not Windows 7, the issue is that most new computers these days come with bloatware, software and antivirus that is preinstalled and it often slows the performance of the system significantly.. In order to fix this I'd recommend fresh installing Windows 7..
Spend few days for it and I think you will get use with it. Windows 7 is easy to use and powerful inside thou you may never use most of these services.
I know that no matter how much rhetoric used to describe the extent of LZ your wonderful articles are not enough, and are hypocritical, so I just want to say: You have read this post very good!
Personally I've always found Windows 7 to be quite a step up from Windows XP. Perhaps there's not an increase in sheer speed, but the large number of additional features make Windows 7 much easier to use than any other operating system I've had to use before. Having recently gone back to Windows XP temporarily in the workplace, I can say that I certainly find Windows 7 much faster in terms of getting things done.
