For myself and a few other people I know we seem to have nothing but problems with Vista (this is with all the fancy bits switched off) especially when rendering video (Sony Vegas Pro). It ends up freezing the system up and by no means is my computer not powerful enough. Also streaming audio to a web server via Virtual DJ, it would freeze up every so often causing breaks in a stream. Since reverting back to XP, all these problems have been resolved.

On the other hand I know a small amount of people that get on with it fine.

only reason windows 7 was released is to justify the salaries for the development team, and to re-invent some of the wheel again to sell it again !! - Windows 98se works a dream on a fast pc, you want to try it !! 1gb ram, reduce the swapfile size so windows uses proper ram memory instead of hard drive

I think looks will be same as vista, as they cant go back to those Xp looks.
i think the features and performance wil be major concern, i think we should be ready to see somthin new and really good, cause microsoft isnt that stupid to do those vista mistakes again.

Do you have a copy of Windows7 so you know this is true? Did you even read the article? The guy who wrote the article has a copy along with high tech test tools and he says you are wrong. Why do you say you KNOW it's faster when the guy tested it and says it's not?
I have Vista on a brand new untouched laptop and it crashes once a week.
I have an UNTOUCHED Vista laptop from Dell that crashes once a week.
You reeaallly don't know what you're talking about, do you?
If you read the article, and you did not, you will see that tests show Windows7 runs the same as Vista, period. They won't change the whole OS overnight.

Name ONE thing Microsoft created on their own. You can't do it.

So you are telling us that the Windows7 OS is going to dramatically change all of its internal workings over the next few months? Microsoft is going to rewrite virtually the whole OS by then?

You are just like everyone else here. You did not read the article. If you are expecting anything new or better, keep dreaming.

The quote from the OP is quite possibly the stupidest thing I have heard - you never expect a pre-alpha software to be compatible with anything, or to have progressed that much. Microsoft have made progress since vista, as the step from vista -> server 2008 is actually a decent one as far as lowering the overhead goes, even though it still runs on the same kernel.

    Agreed xdspro :)

It would be amazing if much (if ANYTHING) would be compatible with Windows 7, and if anything is, that would be amazing :)

Don't judge software that hasn't even come to the public let alone the stores. Just like IE8 Beta 2, its turning out great yet its only beta, but its to soon to give it a yay or nay yet.

Judging software, operating systems, etc. before they are really out just shows your ignorance and how closed minded you are.

Oh yeah, I haven't read each post in this topic, but just for everyone to know, Windows 7 isn't really Windows 7, its Windows 6.1 ;)

While you guys diss the OP (me), I was just the messenger. You obviously did not read, nor could understand, the article, which was written by PCWorld and InfoWorld. They were testing the core of the OS. The kernel and core functionality mostly. Not the GUI or applications. And the quote was from the article.

Your point? If I recall right, when Windows XP came out, people preferred Windows 2k over XP until SP2 came out... Vista only has SP1 so far, SP2 should be coming soon.

People don't like change, and XP was a major change, and Vista was a major change as well.

So everyone has their own opinion... just leave it at that.. why are you all arguing over what OS is better...

Here's my OPINION on XP, Vista, Leopard and Windows 7

XP - was alright... it was a good OS. I would sometimes get BSD! and I hated those... for those of you that don't know what BSD stands for it's Blue Screen of Death. I'm pretty sure you've all gotten them before..
    but then Vista came out...

Vista - I hated Vista... at first.. nothing was compatible... I would get those allow screens all the time and I hated... So i just gave it time... and I soon learned to like it. Then the Updates came in and everything was fine... I've never gotten any BSD with vista and it's never crashed on me.

Leopard - So I got a Mac and I stopped using my PC and now I'm just in love with my Mac :) It's a good OS

Windows 7 - I haven't installed it yet but from what I've seen it acts better the vista. noticed I said ACT the look of it looks off... Like if it's not complete.. and it's not because this is just a BETA version of it. So I'm pretty sure Windows 7 is going to be a pretty good OS.

I saw a video from WINHEC and I was amazed about what WINDOWS 7 was capable of.

I have this link from WINHEC but I guess I can't post it up...

I'm expecting Windows 7 will be better than Vista. I think Windows ME is the worst OS of Microsoft. Vista wants to take ME's place :)
