Believe it or not it's bound to happen lol. Could you imagine if they never retired operating systems? You could by a new pc from dell and get windows 3.1 on it. The operating system is getting old in time everyone will upgrade to vista. I know right now everyone hats vista but if you don't recall most people hated windows xp back in the day too. Over time you will get used to it.

Actually under Vista is more complicated Windows (start logo) > right arrow > shutdown/restart In current Gnome (any current flavor of Linux) go to the right upper corner and there is a shutdown icon (single click) and it shows the options to shutdown/restart.
I think Vista is good at some things but annoying at others...having to go through hoops to get certain games to run, etc
There is a linux OS with major application support and drivers. Its called Ubuntu http://ubuntu.com your graphics drivers are pre-installed and all the programs you need for work(Firefox,Alternative to Word,Excel etc, alternative the photoshop) Are PRE-installed, And if you ever need another program you just click applications> add/remove and you type in the name (eg mp3 player) and itll search through millions of packages available on the net and tell you which mp3 players there are. If you find that is too hard you shouldnt be able to use Digital Point forums.
You're correct with Vista. I also heard it's not such a big deal and that XP SP3 is many times better than SP1 of Vista. Xp version fixes more than 1000 issues. It should be really soon because one of the latest candidates is out for download on the microsoft website.
If you want Win xp I would recommend you go with XP pro. You will be able to get a new computer built with XP for as long as it is supported by Microsoft. How? Simple! Just find a small computer shop in your area. Yes they are out there and these guys will build exactly what you want with any OS you want. Just specify them to use good parts in areas such as the Processor/Mother Board and processor fan and most of the other stuff can be el-cheap-o. A good small shop will stand behind there work and you will not be on hold to india for tech support if something should go wrong. Supporting your local ecomony is not a bad thing ether. Just like anything else with this you need to ask around. There are good small shops and bad small shops so be careful. I am a small ISP owner and I chose not to build computers for my customers but I have a friend who is also a small ISP owner and he does build computers for his customers and any one who wants one. No you probably will not be able to get something for 3 to 400.00 but What you wind up with will be a good machine. Another option is to troll your family members and their friends for a friendly geek who does build his/her own computers. This is what I do for family members who I like. Buttheads need not apply but if I so much as even have nothing against some one be they family or just friends and they ask nicely I am glad to help them out. What are you good at in life? Just offer your services and the geek will usually be glad to build you a computer for some money and some help with what they need. A little good will goes a long way. If people know they can call you and you will be there for them when they need you they often will be ready to help out. Geeks are no different. Remember to a geek building a computer is FUN. ###
It kind of seemed like your post had to do with windows XP at the start, but then you lost me. Now I want to ask my uncles nephew twice removed to build me a computer if i brush his teeth.
it's possible to install XP even with vista installed first. so the dual boot can be done and we can enjoy both OS.
No way. Vista sucks really, i prefer XP. By the way, i already seen a Windows XP SP3 Leaked on a warez forum.
I personally liked 2k pro, I remember when xp came out, too many stupid extra things, thought it was horrible.
You obviously have never worked in an Enterprise environment.... we'll excuse your statement for now....
I skimmed through the thread and didn't think I saw anyone actually supporting vista, so here goes =D. I have vista installed and don't see why people hate it so much =x. I've had it installed for about 5 months and have only had one issue (which I solved by googling the problem and clicking on the first link to appear). It also seems that everyone is crying about vista being a performance hog. I understand if you have an older system with 512mb of RAM or a crappy processor, but honestly... Do you expect to play Xbox 360 games (Vista) on the original xbox (your dated computer)? Technology isn't like most other things, if you want to have the "fancy new operating system" you should probably at least have a computer that you bought/built up to standard or above within the last couple of years. Go ahead and flame me now.
i cant use 90% of the software i have with vista, vista sucks and fuck MS! if my xp starts to become unusable, i will get a apple!
I would not switch to vista till all my must have program required vista. that might be long time from now.
