Yesterday I noticed that my computer is suddenly taking significantly longer to load, especially during the black screen before the Windows XP logo. Does this indicate I'm about to have a major problem like a hard drive crash or something? Should I defrag? Is there anything I can do to fix this? (Tried Googling but all the results I found were either about Windows not loading at all, or the black screen after the Windows logo...)
Have you try to load Windows in Safe Mode and see how the loading goes? You can try disable Services that you're not using in from there. - Dynashox -

Hmm, i have the same Problem, At the Bootscreen Where it says windows Xp Loading It hangs there, I googled it i found that it could be because of Drivers Problem,Some drivers May Not Be Loading Properly, if you find a fix please share
do a scan disk. if that doesnt work, search on yahoo or google the scan disk repair command and then enter that into the run command on your windows start menu. good luck
a clean install is usually a good idea when OS' start taking longer to load. I used to re-install my XP OS every year or so just to speed it up, but I did use it a hell of a lot.
