Linux DOES have support for major apps. THOSE companies are the ones not supplying them for Linux. HOWEVER, there are far more apps that are used by thousands of us that do the same thing. Just because it's not made by Adobe does not mean *nix can't do it. In fact, chances are you can put together your own app to do the same thing or better!

I think Ubuntu will overtake Windows but it will take time. All software & accessories should be compatible with Ubuntu. Then more people will start using it.

    Windows 7, anytime.
There are lots of viruses affecting windows because it is used widely and there are very few linux users. Had linux been this famous, it too would have some major problem similar to virus.

Your statement shows you know nothing about Linux or the computing world at large. The internet runs on *nix. There are millions of *nix users. And you are ignoring the hoops virus writers have to write to get anything to run on *nix. Plus, you must think Linux users money isn't as good as Windows users money and that's why they don't try.

You may also want to read http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux_malware or do a simple web search for viruses/malware for Linux.

Being hard to run does not equate to non-existence. Existence of any platform which gains popularity would make it more attractive to virus/malware writers especially when that platform is being used by non-techie people.

From memory even the official Linux repository was compromised once. If the place you get your Linux distro/updates is compromised, how can one guarantee the security of that distro?

Not totally true to be honest. There are quite a lot of users who use the computer for simple things like Word processing and Web browsing/Emails.

It is quite easy to get Ubuntu or any Linux Distro to have the same feel as Windows with the end-user not being the wiser.

Ubuntu is better in some cases like when i installed ubuntu in my laptop, it did not need any drivers. When i installed XP I had hell of a time trying to make the sound drivers work.

But when it comes to playing videos or other applications ubuntu sucks. Windows rocks in those areas.

Ubuntu is better for the casual user who don't want to indulge in piracy (or spend money) and want to enjoy point and click functionality (Limited i must say).

If you are more serious in security, features etc then go for debian, red hat or fedora

No dude, there are a lot of viruses affecting windows because the system sucks. You can not hit a linux with a virus. There are millions of servers using linux but no viruses.

I have used both Windows and Ubuntu and honestly I liked Ubuntu but couldn't fin any reason to use it instead of Windows.

Linux is safer than Windows because.
    A. Lots of Linux and Mac lovers create viruses for Windows. I know this because some of my friends do that.

    B. The idea behind virus is to damage as many PC as possible, since 89% of world PC use windows, most virus are specifically designed for windows. If linux or mac had 89% market share they would have faced same problem.

But that makes all the difference.
From memory, I don't remember that at all, but, even if it were true, a one time shot does not compromise the whole issue.

If you are an average user, Linux runs all the same software Windows does; the same browser, the same email the same word processors, the same everything that isn't Microsoft specific but that can be done, too, and it doesn't cost anything, it's safer, it's faster, yet you can't find a reason?
    Absolutely false!
Absolutely false! Too many people think *nix works like Windows and all someone has to do is learn a few new pieces of code and they have a *nix virus. It doesn't work that way.

I used only once Ubuntu, but actually found one great problem - cannot find emulations for all software under Ubuntu. otherwise it is more stable than windows and give you more opportunities to operate with it.

I accept with information: Windows sucks if you want to get work done, but if you want to play games all day, then it is your OS. Ubuntu S U C K S at games and is not very good with music if you like all the fancy features, it does well with video, sometimes better than windows, it just doesn't do well with the entertainment aspect. It is however a MASTER at work.
