yes, the price of a mac is a major drawback. But.. if you factor in the amount of time you spend tweaking and updating windows, the price isn't really a factor at all.

Looks like something might be brewing soon at the Apple end. 2 Major Mac Retailers here in Singapore advertised in this weekend papers which they normally don't do before. It looks like they are trying to clear stock before the launch of something new. That's just a speculation but knowing Apple, I am sure something is coming out soon and it is not just the launch of Leopard.

Well, this is how many are judging the two. I never tried a Mac, never owned one. Probably never will unless I get some free time to sdudy one and get used to it which isn't probably going to happen anytime soon. Then it's the software-for-mac versions that I'll need to be looking for as alternatives of the ones I am using now to do my work with. Doesn't sound too exciting and I can't afford to spare time on it right now. Yeah, I've heard Mac is better, which doesn't necessarily mean it really is but anyway. Will give it a try some day. Maybe :)

Get a Mac of you want eye-candy (physically and operating system wise).

Otherwise go with windows. Get yourself an IBM, loaded up with win xp or vista. Better than any mac IMO.

Oh well, I think I may be too quick with my post. The sales promotion could be because the sales of Apple computers have fallen, either because of Vista or because people are just waiting for Leopard.

It appears that there is some rumors that Leopard will not be out till October which misses the Spring 2007 dateline.

Well, it is a hard fight for me. I did had an iMac before. Although it is nice, I did not quite do much there. Did write a software for the mac though but did not actively promote it after it did not get too warm a reception. I guess partly because most of what I did was covered by iLife in a way or other.

Maybe I will just get the Dell and be done with it :) Save me some nice bucks which I can use for something nice.

Windows and Macs both have their pros and cons so it really depends on what you're going to use it for. I love Macs but only work on PC's because all of my customers and products are targeted for Windows users (except the occasional ebook).

Additionally, I've got a fairly extensive VPN, so for uniformity (support and maintenance), supoorting one operating system is simpler for me.

If you're just a basic user, surf the net and aren't into anything OS specific, Macs are a better choice. More costly, but also more stable and less susceptible to viruses, trojans and other problems. Someone mentioned ease of use and eye candy as well - Macs have always been the Gold standard when it comes to this.

If you're into IM then a Windows system is preferred, simply because of the disparity in OS marketshare.

Its my greatest dream to own a mac one day. From what I have heard from others, Mac is a much much much more better than any Windows OS. I've NEVER seen anyone say anything bad about a Mac. Go for a Mac, if you can afford one.

id never touch a mac, personally.

they do however have good protection against viruses etc due to most being written for PC. for the kinds of program i use (specialist) their compatibility is next to nil. however, neither is water (or milk) proof lol.

Once Apple takes the throne, you'll see things change.
A leader has always been a sweeter target for the crowd to mess about :)

Of course not - there's plenty of freeware and shareware software on pc which you can explore without end and you can find tool for almost every purpose that you can think about. I'm not sure is this so flexible on mac. All depends of that what this computer will be used for. Personally - I don't have any reason to go to Mac (and Vista too...).
