It works amazingly well for a beta. The install (which I did as an upgrade from XP) went smoothly. All my software works fine on it. There were a couple that didn't at first, but there is an option to run programs in XP compatibility mode, and that seems to solve nearly everyone's problem with software. I don't have the graphic ability to run Aero, but even the standard UI is really nice-looking. my specs: 512k ram (can't have less than that to install), and well, i'd list the rest of the specs if i remembered them. nothing special though; definitely not a big-time gamer machine. there is an occasional quirk where i lose net access, but a reboot fixes it. oh, and i love the new backup feature.
I use Vista also to develop software and take advantage of the new WinFX aka .NET Framework 3.0. I have been using Vista as my primary OS for a while now and love it. Microsoft's decision to use hardware accelerated graphics and high end hardware was due to the fact that it would be a nicer OS if they did that and that is the case. My 3 year old machine runs Vista just fine with P4 3.0GHZ, 1GB Ram.
What's new in vista?. Only search boxes and improved security? Why is it so big, i mean 4 gbs is more than 5 times the size of XP.
Remember it's beta and file size may drop with the release but not by much. Vista has a ton of new things like security, UI, Development Platform, 3D Video / Audio development stuff, Per application volumn control, Application Control Access, IE7 blocks all ActiveX controls if your not upgrading from IE6, etc.
I cant download it from MS website.. it says the program is closed. Can anyone here help downloading the latest beta >?
Sure you can compare the resources that Windows Vista will use to Windows XP. Yes it uses more, and you could even say that Windows XP uses more than Windows 98. The fact is that Windows Vista by far will be better than Windows XP, it's the next OS that we have been waiting for.
Windows Vista comes with a bunch of changes The main changes are mostly the file explorer, start menu, taskbar thumbnails (called live task bar) and of course Windows flip and flip 3d. They also offer a few new software: windows defender, ie7, gadget (sidebars) and much more Too bad my dell laptop doesn't support the Windows Vista Aero (only Windows Vista Basic). The new Dell laptops already shows the "Vista ready" tag.
it already did for windows 95 n Me !!!! 95 z a bit old but how can it stop supportin me it´s a very latest version only like 5-6 yrs back
my acer supported and worked fine until da day i format da disk i dont wanna upgrade to vista !! omg it´s just full of crap
umm, I think they still forgot about this one (security)... When they showed of Vista at Black Hat the first thing that happened was someone hacking into it and to top that off it was a large hack that would allow hacker access into everything... it was called a root hack or something. Anything Microsoft has on there new OS, has already been done by Linux or Mac! Like IE 7 with Tabed browsing... even though Mircosoft stated that they would never add tabbed browsing because of the confustion it causes...
I agree. Tabbed browsing is one of the best innovations in browsers. Wonder if Vista will be ready for the scheduled rollout in early 2007 or if M$ will set the date for later in the year?
I'd wait till there're decent hardware and software to fully support it. There're so many exciting features espcially programming technologies coming up in Vista, so i'm looking forward to it. As Vista is in Direct3D mode by default, we'll be seeing great innovations in 3d computing, possibly 3d desktop projected in hologram. Cool!
A new era to explore. Its really something very terrafic. I have tried installing beta version. I agreed with the 3d factor coming in this new platform. It is due to this reason vista will going to be a big hit.
