Im sure some bright spark will make a hack to enable internet connection any way. Where there’s popular software, there are popular hackers Bad news for bill, good news for people using pirated software. - I in no way condone pirated software - buy the original and you will get all the support you need!
I didn't know about that. I'm sure Vista will have new and improved measures to try and frustrate the pirates....arrrrrrrrrrrg. What I really like is when you buy a new PC and they don't give you the CD or any CD's for that matter!! ___________________ What's a Fake signature?? Last edited by Smyrl : Today at 11:17 am. Actually it’s at RC2 (release candidate) not beta which means this is really close, if not the actual version, that will be hitting the shelves. I will be putting vista on my desktop tonight and see how it fairs but it totally sucked on my laptop. I installed the 64bit version and my laptop just could not keep up. Vista is obviously aesthetically better then XP but your hardware will be feeling the pain of beauty for sure.
nice observations. what's the point of that though? so basically it runs like **** for the person who isn't upgrading their PC every 4 months??? or am I reading you wrong? I want to be able to do more with less not the other way around!!! If it runs great on a 3.66GHz Core-Duo with 4GB of Ram yippeee but who has that???
its a poor attempt at getting people to buy vista jkust like always all the software pirates and crackers will find ways to disable this cripple feature and they will still pirate it, in hte end it only creates problems for legitimate users if they lose their keys or the cripple feature is glitchy just like the manby legit copies of winxp that are having problems with wga
Hi there, I love Vista, I think it is very clean, and has some 'excellent' security features! Windows simply has more problem as it is the most popular OS, if Linux was as popular it would of had the same problems. Vista has been improved although I aren't bias I do agree that it probably won't be long until there are problems in Vista. But then again, who know? If I was you I would wait until at least a SP2 has been released as Windows are know for having a rubbish first release. Regards, Kieran Taylor.
I despise microsoft (and their business practices), but there really aren't any better alternatives. Apple and Linux aren't mainstream enough to have proper software support.
That’s my point in previous posts but I still want to know how it will run on my desktop. No matter how much I don’t like the bulkiness of vista, this is the direction Microsoft is moving. You have to follow the leader when the leader has a significant market share. People are going to be pissed when vista is released without a doubt but what are they going to do? The only thing you can do is buy a Mac (might as well just upgrade your PC), keep running XP/2000, install Linux, or invest in a vista capable box. The thing that bothers me the most is that even when Vista is set on its lowest visual settings it still runs ridiculously slow. If it ran well on the lowest settings on an average machine (2 GHz, 512 Ram, on board graphics of sorts) then yes, I would fully approve of vista, but alas I can not.
http://theinq.com/default.aspx?article=34915 So let's review: Good : * better interface, 3D * better security (at least they want us to believe that, we'll just count the patches after retail release) Bad : * more DRM crap * more restrictions * more annoying * over 3 GB of setup * uses huge memory ammounts * 10-15 % slower than other MS OSes * no real improvements or features that can not be created using 3rd party free/shareware applications Really nice...
Is there really a "good" reason to upgrade to Vista from XP? It gets to the point where who cares about the better eye candy, by this point most people have the security of their pc in check, and if you are like me an XP works fine, why upgrade anyways? It would be different if they were offering something that merrited upgrading, but it doesn't seem that it is anything too special. I realize that I will have to upgrade at somepoint (when they quit releasing software for XP) but really there is no reason at this point. I feel that Windows XP is similar to what Windows 98 SE was: good, stable, kind of the best at the time. Even now, there are still alot of people using windows 98 because it works. I think Vista will have to prove itself to be worth it... I guess we will have to wait to see what happens.
Ah, they are both as bad as each other ( Apple / MS ). The thing you have to remember is that MS make money on the OS. Apple are perfectly fine for their OS to be a loss-leader since they make money on their locked-in hardware and subscription services ( .MAC ? ). It's really not that hard to understand the reasons behind these companies doing what they do. Apple intentionally inhibit your ability to use anyone else's lower cost components to upgrade your hardware. (The OS is basically a loss-leader for them, although if you look at the license agreement you are allowed to transfer the OS to another user ONE time only ). MS are actively trying to protect their OS because it's NOT a loss-leader, they make a large part of their revenue from sales of the OS. Which to be fair is doing a damn fine job of working with a massive list of hardware and software combinations. Yeah, the activation system is a pain in the ass if you don't actually pay for the license. For MS, they are protecting their invesment and have found that the eventual *nag* that they hit people with (genuine advantage) when people went to download software from MS that required a legal copy of XP running, many people actually ended up buying a legal copy ! Short term the pirates won, long term, someone has to foot the bill or eventually you will be left with an outdated version of the OS. I also think, the updates that MAC OS and WinXP require is a bit absurd, but, they do and both again are equally as bad.
One more reason to stay away from Microsoft. When I wanted to download the raw viewer, I had to authenticate my XP. It came with the laptop, so I entered the number and guess what, didn't work. MS was convinced my copy wasn't genuine. I ordered the laptop directly from HP online, so it was a MS fluke. Bottom line, if word spreads that this kind of thing happens with Vista, while they cripple your computer, even though you bought the crap Vista will be finished.
98SE was amazing after 95, an IT guy's dream, ran on everything practically and was fairly stable. But still no comparison to NT/2000 and XP, an OS finally started to actually work well Eric
