Windows Vista Beta 2.0

Has anyone installed and tried this out yet? What do you think? Is it worth trying it out?

Yes, it's beta, so install on a spare machine if at all possible - not on the machine that you depend upon to make your living.

 

So everyone here is a microsoft beta tester ?

 

I downloaded it and was so excited to install it... that is, until I found out that my computer did not have the specs to run it.

 

128mb vga card
pixelshader 2.0
15gb hdd space (!)
2GHz

etc..... it's a bit too much imo

 

this is what the box says. you can run win xp on only 8MHz and 20MB RAM if you really want, even if the requirements say you need much more:

Well, basically, I'm only missing the Graphics part. It says that I need a 128MB graphics card, but I only have 64MB.

So the setup was all messed up, the text didn't show, and finally it gave me an error message, but I couldn't see it. lololol.

 

I installed it yesterday and it's great. I'm loving speech recognition, no more typing

and if i grow tired of it..whats it take to uninstall it and revert back to XP

 

How long is this beta good for? Does the key expire in a few months?

 

Good ole Microsoft, always one step behind the competition. Buy a Mac. My six year old Mac runs the latest OS X and viruses are non-existant.

 

It good for 12months if i remember correctly.

I'm 10% done on the download. The speed is pretty constant, so should have it done soon

 

anyone used this yet? how is it? is it stable? and have you run into many incompatibility problems yet?

i dont seem to have encounterd any problem with vista beta2 yet .. just make sure u have the hardware req. http://www.deebest.net/2006/05/27/Windows_Vista_Capable_PC_requirements.html
Minimum Req:
* A modern processor (at least 800MHz1).
* 512 MB of system memory.
* A graphics processor that is DirectX 9 capable.

 

All these requirements, I hope the new windows has some sort of "lite mode" which turns on while playing game or using other graphic and cpu intense applications, I don't want windows sucking up a gig of my ram and 50% of my cpu which can be used to improve performance.

 

The classic look and feel is still supported so if you have a low end machine that will be your best choice to improve performance.
