Windows Virus? lots of tiny files with html snippets in c:/

A friend just emailed me this snapshot. Both PCs have lots of tiny files in c:/ which, when opened, reveal the html from websites they've visited.

They'll be using IE and Firefox, nothing funky there. They've scanned and swept but nothing doing.

    Does anyone recognise this?

Are they using any kind of desktop search tool (like the google one) which may be caching the sites they visit?

Where in C: are the files?

I would be surprised if it's google desktop doing that.

The files are in c:/ not in a subdirectory or anything.

My mate is an IBM engineer so he knows a thing or two, just hasn't seen this before.

You are right - any legitimate program would store the file in subdirectory.

Maybe some program like a search tool has lost the setting for what directory to use for these files. Now they just end up in the root.
