It makes little to no sense to release it or even be contemplating developing it until they have made their current operating system usable. To do anything else will just knock any confidence most consumers have in the company-a company who it seems is unable to finish a project before releasing. But then that won't matter-we'll be forced to take it anyway when all the big manufacturers ship it with their machines...
Looks like the Redmond giant wants to keep users hooked on.I think desktop operating systems are obsolete.
But hooked onto what? I honestly do not see what this move would achieve, other than undercutting sales of the current system. It would have just a year as the only on sale OS before the new came out-a LOT of people could wait that time out and skip it altogether.
The way software development works these days before your latest product is even out the door the next one is in the works. They were working on Vista at the time XP was released as well. This is what happens when development cycles get this long. So I'm not sure why people are surprised about them announcing the next OS when vista has just come out. Over the next few years just like XP, Vista will mature into a great product that will run on all modern systems.
If you are planning on waiting for Viena you will be waiting for a long time. First, it will only be released around 2010+...then you will have to wait for patches etc. The fact is, Microsoft will never release a "complete" version of an OS when they first hit the shelves. You will always have to wait for more bug fixes, etc, as it takes seeing a product in real-time use to actually fix needed bugs. It would be impossible to release an OS that doesn't need updates along the way. btw..vista owns
I am an action pack subscriber and will have it when it comes available in 2020... even though they will say it will be ready in 2010. I will hope that it is an improvement over Vista for what XP was over 2000. Seems like for Microsoft every other version of their OS is crap, with the exception Windows 2000. As for staying happy with Vista. You really need 2 Gig of Ram and 3.0+ Ghz dual core processor. I presently have 2 Gig of ram and a 3.2 Ghz hyperthreading processor. It works okay, but still hangs some of the time. I probably need a true dual core processor, and 2 more gig of ram. I have considered the possibility of getting a dual processor board and putting 2 dual core processors on it and start putting in 2 gig sticks of ram as I can afford it... but that just gets back to someone else's point.... vista is crap unless you have a $10,000 computer. That might be a little exaggerated but a $500 computer won't cut it. It will cost $2000-$3000 for a computer that will handle vista nicely. BTW... I have considered switching back to XP for performance issues... but I just kind of like the feel of vista. I can deal with the performance issues... it is the security annoyances that bother me. Yes VISTA... I want that program to access my computer... now leave me the crap alone...
Please post info on vienna!! I hate vista...so im staying with XP at the moment! i hope microsoft dont let us all down again...like they continue to do!
I like the Vienna name better. They must be catching a lot of flaq from Vista users and are trying to depart from the V Names.
