Hello friends, I am interested to buy the Hosting space and want to start few new Websites inside it. My question is that "Windows Hosting or Linux Hosting is good? And what are the Uses, advantages and the Disadvantages of both of them while comparing with each Other?" I am also interested to know about more hosting methods and the procedures for all of these hosting methods? Thank You
I will depend on what programming language you will use.. Both of them are proven good.... Its up to you.. But for me linux is good because they are more popular and Cheap.
Hi, This depends on the type of content you will be serving: If you want to use ASP.Net you will need to use Windows (Linux/mono will probably not work with most applications unless written for it). In my personal experience Linux plans will be significantly cheaper as there are little to no licensing costs. With Windows in addition to the control panel license and other goodies you pay for the Windows Server License, MSSQL server license, etc. In the end it depends on what you want to host. If you are hosting a lot of files or static content go with Linux. If you are hosting php go with Linux. If you are hosting ASP.Net go with Windows. (Some ASP applications require modifications to work on Linux or Windows depend on which it was written for).
If you want to host websites build on open source applications it is much better to sign up with Linux based host. If your website runs ASP then go for Windows powered machine. In general, when we talk about an average website it is much cheaper (and it is still more reliable) to use Linux based web hosting.... hope this helps
I haven't got any experience with Mono, but from what I have heard, coding on Mono is a bit different than natural Windows environment. So, if need a fully supported ASP, .NET, go with Windows
Yeap fully agree, Windows is evolving extremely fast, using such Linux equivalent projects for eg Mono, you really can't catch up if you need full ASP or ASP Dot Net. Also Dot Net is an extremely integrated platform with Windows, having it on Linux really defeats the purpose. Might as well use PHP in Linux.
