Windows 8 faster, only using 460MB of RAM when active.

I am going to be using Windows 7 for the next couple years. After that I might end up switching to an open source OS. It seems like with every Windows iteration there are more updates required. I imagine Windows 8 will get to the point where there is an upgrade "Necessary" practically every day. I have been using Windows since 95 (when I was 5 years old) and it seems that in the last 17 years there has been very little improvement in the performance of Excel, Word, and Powerpoint. The only reason I continue to use Windows is that selling software to Microsoft users seems to be easier than selling to users of any other OS.

It is really not important that the newer operating system would be better. The biggest example in front of is the Windows 98 which was better than Windows ME in every way! While same is in the case of Windows XP and Windows Vista. I guess Windows 7 is the most superior operating system, and i am happy with its performance and i don't think i would plan to switch to Windows 8 for a long time, because i am completely satisfied with its performance.

I just told a friend of mine the other day that wanted to get windows 8 or whatever you call it, I would just stick with 7 as it is stable and has service packs. Windows 8 is new hence you will be working for Microsoft for free doing tech support and fixing their bugs. After the first service pack comes out then you may want to change. Now do not completely quote me on this but this is what I have heard from a few techs, windows 8 is mostly coming out for the tablets and touch screen monitors etc. I mean it has other features of course but (3) techs told me A) touch screen monitors still suck on pc's they work but not that well and if you have a mac touch screen is way better and works better so then get windows 8 but if you have a pc they told me I wouldn't get it for now. Again I have just been talking to a few techs and I have also read on toms hardware about this put a search on tom's hardware and there are threads talking about windows 8, tablets and touch screens and touch screens pc vs mac.

My view Window 7 is best, because it is so easy to operate.

Windows 8 - I really think it is designed for iPad and Smartphones specifically. For the Desktop and Laptops i really believe Windows 7 has the answers - If they bulided on Windows 7 and sort of did slightly changes here and there and only a little change in interface for face value - We could see the best operation system yet.

But lets see how windows 8 is being marketed because from when Windows 7 launched - Windows 8 doesn't seem to be marketed or wanted to be marketed as a big release.

Windows 8 is better because 8 is a larger integer than 7 and therefore carries more influence.

Windows 8 isn't really out yet, just the beta preview. I look forward to seeing it though. It's targeted towards touch-screens, so maybe "Surface" (Microsoft's new laptop/ipad) will work well with it. I'm taking a wait-and-see approach with regard to the Metro apps and Win 8.
