I would say you always download the OS before you buy. Give it a shot, see if you like it, and then buy. Software must evolve. It's the thing with technology.
Although, this is probably a market strategy for trying to keep up with Apple's incessant number of releases in which all they do is polish the GUI and increase the OS's requirements.

PS> GET Win7. It's worth the download/buy. Who knows? Win8 may not be...:)

Well, in 2012, well Windows 8 is coming out, Windows 9 will be scheduled for 2014. So what's the point of buying 8? Kind of defeats the purpose of ever buying an update. We should all just stick to Windows 98.,,,

but the world is going to end!

also don't you think that's kind-of bad for business? it's like windows is telling everyone that their product they just made is no good or lacking features which they could have added, but they won't add until later to make more money...

The original statement was that hardware vendors were not interested in this. Obviously hardware vendors are.

Who cares it's only $300 tiny money, less than a few days earnings. If your not making enough money don't buy ... simple.

Microsoft is a company who wants to make a profit, people will buy it which makes them profit even if there's no need, your complaining about the short lifespan of Windows 7 is boring.

I think windows 7 will replace the XP and will be most popular and windows 8 will come out to be not a big hype as VISTA. but windows XP is gonna out from the market for sure now.

I'm pretty sure Windows 8 is supposed to be a major release. It should hopefully prove to be quite an update.

I'm on Windows 7 at home myself, I like it so far :)

How bout they stop adding COOL graphic designs and new expensive touch features and just go back to optimizing the code to be smaller and more CPU and RAM friendly to make it smaller.... I'm tired of all the bullshit they added when i saw Vista, however Wn7 was a fresh start, they still need to keep going...
