Technologies are changing at a rapid pace, so I'd rather have them release frequently to accommodate rapid change, rather than stick around in ancient periods. Nothing forces us to upgrade when it comes out. I'd rather have the option to upgrade if I wanted rather than it not even be available. Anyways...: http://www.neowin.net/news/main/09/11/21/windows-8-is-coming-in-2012
Oh, and some interesting "detective work" checking out job listings to see what's in Windows 8: http://arstechnica.com/microsoft/ne...tm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=rss
That pattern is flawed: Leaving Windows 3.x aside: There was nothing bad about Windows 95 (version B especially), the first version of IE4 (included in Win95 C) though is a different story (made the entire system unusable at times if IE4 had a hissy fit) Windows 98 was a so and so OS. It only became good when Win98 SE was released. You missed Windows 2000 here. An excellent OS which I personally used for years. Never had any issues with it. Windows Millennium was a joke. Windows XP has been good for a while now. Windows Vista is an odd one. For those who ran the 64 bit editions, the problems were significantly less than for the 32bit editions. Still can be put in the bad category for the 32bit as more people used it (note that bad drivers from Nvidia and Creative formed many of the issues on the OS) Windows 7 seems to be a winner for the time being. The pattern would thus appear to be: Win95 (good) -> Win98 (okish) -> Win98SE (good) -> Win2k(Excellent) -> WinMe (terrible) -> WinXp (Excellent) -> Vista (Bad) -> Win7 (Good)
Microsoft and software vendors force you to change. Microsoft doesn't support their OS after so many years and the same is true of a lot of the software on Windows.
Impossible, can you guys just stop talking about Windows 8 and just enjoy the damn Windows 7 for now?
Not everybody needs support. I don't care to know if XP is still supported or not, but my main machine still uses it. 'Tis alive and kickin'.
Oh I get your point there.. 2012. Nothing can predict World's ending but regarding the Windows 8.. Im still using the XP so I think there would be no greater chance for me to use that OS.
Why spend your money on windows 8 then when just a few years later Windows 9 is coming? Windows has always had a release cycle of 2-3 years, it's just the gap between XP and Vista was so big people seem to have forgotten about that. Besides, Ubuntu gets a different release every six months (and most of them aren't exactly small) and OSX has had gaps from less than a year, with it's longest gap being between Leopard and Snow Leopard, which was just 2 years. As I haven't used a Mac since Tiger, I'm not exactly sure how major these upgrades are, but Mac fanboys are constantly telling me how awesome and changed and etter than Windows Snow Leopard is, so I'll consider them to be major upgrades.
But what about Windows 9 ... why bother to wait for for 7 or 8 when you could have the best of the best ...
You guys should forget when the next version is coming use windows 7 for now and enjoy whats the point of discussing when next version is coming
they announced they would release a new OS every 3 years a while ago. vista - 2006 vista second edition - 2009 vista third edition - 2012 vista fourth edition - 2015* *if Washington state isn't under water
Wooo, just like Obama! Seriously, I'm so impressed with Windows 7 - i'm not even sure how they can outdo themselves this time.
LOL and there was me thinking Microsoft only released Windows 7 earlier than their planned 2010 release date due to the imminent release of Google Chrome OS next year - which is supposedly gonna be FREE - Linux based, but with a Google twist that will perhaps make it a little less ugly as compared to the likes of Ubuntu
