I think that rather than spending $200-$300 and a new computer every 3 years people should keep what they have. I had mentioned this was coming a week ago in another thread.

Actually I heard this thing a long time ago, but I got one question to ask. People are right now running after Windows 7 saying it is quite cool but if this "Microsoft releasing Windows 8 in 2012: is ture then will buying Windows 7 be feasible right now?

    I completely agree with you.

Why spend your money on windows 7 now while in just a few years windows 8 is coming? I would be interested to see what kind of an update its actually going to be.. time will tell!

well Microsoft will prolly flop on that OS and rapidly come out with windows 9 which is soooo much better than windows 8,
    do you see the pattern

    win 95(bad) -> win 98 (good) -> win Me (Bad) -> XP (good) -> vista (Bad)-> win 7 (good) -> win 8 (bad) -> win 9 (good)

I was wondering what the next Windows version would be called.

How about Windows Maya, in reference to the Mayan Calendar which predicts the end of the world by 2012? ;)

That would be disaster marketing, MS already has enough haha

It should release on 12/12/2012 so we can crack jokes about Nostradamus' and the Mayans end of days predictions.

Lol..Actually they are very worried that the world is going to end in 2012 as the Mayans predicted. So before the world ends, they want to put up their name on the rocks (in History). I think they will release it quite before 12th December 2012. Ha ha I think the first thing that they want the inhabitants of the earth after 2012 to find, is Windows 8 DVDs buried in the ground.

The can release a new os every year if they want, doesn't mean everyone is going to buy it. I think people are more likely to hang on to what they got, as long as they can with the economy the way it is. Everyone is pinching pennies, and unless things improve drastically I don't see everyone running out to buy this every couple of years. There will always be some that do, those that have money to burn, the techie's, etc. I had xp for close to 8 years. I have windows 7 now, I don't plan on upgrading or switching for at least 5 years from now.

A company bringing out an update to their software in 3 years time :O heaven forbid!

Sorry to go against the grain here but i bought a legit copy of windows 7 from a retailer for £30, even the standard £70 in my eyes is a bargain. I loved XP i hated Vista. If they bring out quality products every 3 years then i dont begrudge paying £70 to upgrade. If on the other hand they reel out rubbish like Vista then i do.

In 3 years time, i reckon we will have HD PCs, there will be USB3, Bluetooth 2, all sorts of new things that windows 7 probably wont be able to run.

Nobody is forcing you to upgrade, and XP is still perfectly fine to use and i anticipate it will still be fine in 2012. Im not sure what year XP came out but i believe it was 2001, lets just say 2005 for arguments sake. If you bought windows xp and dont upgrade until 2012 then thats 7-11 years between updates.

I dont think anyone can seriously complain at that.

Either way i bought W7 last month, if in 2012 i think the upgrade is a worthy succesor and is reasonably priced then i dont see any arguments. If your unhappy go to 1 of the main linux distributions.

As long as the world doesn't end, *wink wink*.

    I don't think they should've named it W8 already...
What if W7 turns out to be another Vista? I know right now it looks beast as hell & everything...but what if sometime during the future something corrupt is found within it, and now they have already named this new system W8 and it will already have gained a bad rep.

No one can stop them, let them be. Its their own choice, its part of their business. No need to whine about it.
