Windows 7 free for 3 months - is it worth a try?

Seen a number of posts referring to Windows 7, I am tempted to try it. I see now you can extend the trial period from 30 days to 120 days using the -rearm command. Just not sure I would want the hassle - it it's anything as bad as Vista. Tried this for a while then quickly went back to XP, but now am considering Windows 7. Any comments or experiences with 7? Is it one to avoid like Vista or have Msft got their act together on this one?

I mean the best thing you could do is to just try it for yourself. I mean, if you dual boot with it, you might like it, you might not. What do you really have to lose to try it for yourself? That's my biggest suggestion, because it's like a movie, you never really know if your going to like it until you see it.

The public beta (7000) is free to try until July 2010. They are talking about the RTM / Msdn version ( 7600) which is original product which is free to try for 30 days and can be extended ( rearmed) 3 times which makes it 120 days.

I run the RC on my laptop and have had no issues with it at all. I used to have vista on it and with SP1 it was OK, but now after using 7 I really can't stand the sluggishness and issues that Vista brings.

If you don't mind the few hours of time it will take to reinstall it's worth a try for sure considering it IS free till July of next year.

    Thanks!

I've not had any experience with Windows 7 yet, but I've read on several sites that it performs better on netbooks than even Windows XP does. Is this true? If it is, I might consider downloading the release candidate and putting it on my netbook just to try it out.

The truth is this.. On a regular installation of XP, we apply various tweaks and settings to make it very responsive and fast. Windows 7 is factory tuned with all latest gadgets. So sure its a win. For newbies win7 is fantastic. I dont see a choice for them..

yea why not. There will be a massive switch from people who use XP.
Vista users will cry wolf and upgrades will be 60-40
