Will you succeed on Facebook?

We have been actively marketing on facebook. Not very encouraging results although we have groups, great content and the like.

We noticed the following problems in this method and I thought I would just share it with members.

    1. A significantly large number of female profiles are connected to marketers of adult sites or related activity.
    2. There is so much spam on everyone's personal pages, no one is really reading those things.
    3. People in Add Me groups or those creating Add Me groups are seeking to send you more of their own marketing lines and content
    4. PPC advertising on facebook is of suspect value. If you get them to approve your ad, no matter how clean it is.
    5. The place is crawling with tons of people who are looking for some manner of adult activity.
    6. Atleast 25% of women trying to add you to their contacts list will be porn stars.
    7. Applications will leech your data and spam you even more.
    8. With the sheer volume of junk posted on everyones wall from every other contact they know, its not possible to have any of your messages hold for even a few minutes.
    9. I personally have about 300 friend invites and 50 group invites daily. I am 100% sure they don't want me that badly.

Now, having seen just some of the problems, you should evaluate the time you are going to spend doing this. You will get some instant results but the moment you stop posting, these will drop off rapidly.

The only successful method is to take is slowly.
Build a group, close it for comments and junk.
Post very good content there that people will come to see.
Your material must be related to what you are trying to sell.
Only 2-5% visitors to your facebook group are going to visit your site.
Its a black hat method so its not going to pay in the long term.

Would love to hear other people's experiences.

There is no doubt that you will succeed in facebook as long as you are focus and true to your intentions. I guess anyone who is focus on what they do will really get their goal. :)

I think its all depends on stuff you're trying to sell, and whom you're targeting. On my opinion placing clothes with specific materials information, will drive customers to you. And even better if you give some discount for them.

Well you can not easily spam on Facebook any more, they can track you easily and suspend or disable functions of your account...

Depends on your niche. It's really hard to sell on facebook. You'll have better luck with 1-3 page submit offers!

The key is patience. Get your accounts fired up with proxies. Spend time, or outsource slowly building the trust of these accounts. Join groups, play some games, and don't add people without glancing at their profiles. I can spot most BS spammers a mile away. Groups about specific topics like "world peace" and such are best. Farmville, and anything that has a product on CB or other affiliates are full of spammers. Think outside the box, and be ready with honest looking account when facebook drops the hammer. Too many people are blackhatting, instead of spending a few months grayhatting. Any good marketer can spot the bs on there, and there aren't very many "victims" left for impatient spamming.

I like to link to various blogs on facebook. Then they can read the materials, and decide for themselves if they want to click on my squeeze pages. Be honest, and it will build for you in the long run. Things will go viral sooner, or later, if you don't scare everyone off, and get your accounts banned. Quality over quantity folks. Things are hard because of those cashing in on short term trends, and pissing off the real FB account holders.

This theory works for all social networks.

I discovered that you have to pay ads on Facebook only after using 20$ credits, before that you have to pay nothing .. Then what about advertising for free until getting 20$ ? By simply putting a false credit card ?!! A new tip used by spammers to make ads everywhere on facebook for free.

I am no guru as far as advertising on facebook is concerned. What we hope to evolve here is a strategy works for all and should comprise of

    1. Getting as much free traffic from facebook as possible
    2. Not spamming facebook
    3. Not getting yourself banned.

    Any ideas are welcome.

I also found that creating a flyer on a page helps a lot. Some people I know have tried that and are getting moderate success with good signups.
Second, if you are up to some programming, then make a nice functional web page and load it up in the APPS section. It will not only get people but also get you the profiles.

We are working on this now and will be posting more on this topic later.

I'm not so sure facebook is the marketing goldmine most people think it is. It all depends on your approach.

If you're looking for direct links to your site, and straight from facebook to checkout type sales you will probably be disappointed. I see a lot of companies who think "facebook is the new fad, I must do it" and they spend a lot of time building a page and gathering random friends and fans and seeing nothing in return.

One way I've seen people succeed is simply using facebook for branding and viral uses. Using it to get your brand name out there and providing quirky unique stuff helps a bit. But very few of these people are going to click through to your site and purchase. However when you spend time building your name, people start talking about you. And when they talk about you and you become well known, this will benefit you indirectly (obviously).

So if you're using it for branding or starting viral campaigns it can work. If you're looking for direct sales don't bother. Facebook is becoming a spammers' playground and people are ignoring it. This happened with myspace too, and I think that contributed to their downfall quite a bit.

The moral of the story is: don't be spammy. It's a poor long term goal and doesn't work that well anyway.

i don`t think that you can get a real exposure on facebook meaning cannot market on facebook since people there are just trying to comunicate to each other and not find stuff to buy or market themselves so i suggest taking a defferent approach to the marketing online like article marketing for example
