Will you lose your rankings if you quit building backlinks?

Hi,
when it come to linkbuilding you have to do it on a regular basis or occassionally but you should not stop doing that.Once you stop then you are out, because your competitors does'nt sit idle.

 

Link building has nothing to do with your website ranking ? really... so I guess you can achieve first position for... mmm let's say Credit Cards, just with onpage optimization?

Achieving high position has to do only with 1 thing: Link building.
If i have more links than you, with the right anchor key I will be higher than you, in the Search Engines.

If people keep thinking Content is king.. is because they usually are not making money.

 

I think it is the right answer and I am quite agreed with sultanofseo...

 

you will not lost the ranking immediately but your ranking will be dropped gradually if your sompetitors build/got more/stronger backlinks. If your competitors do nothing, you will still stay where you are. just like SultanOfSEO said, It's about the competition.

 

I would really like to see proof of this. We have added lots of relative and interesting contents on http://www.cardsshoppe.com but have not had people beating our doors down to link with us.

Look, I'm not saying that people shouldn't build backlinks. On the contrary, I'm convinced it is important. BUT several times in SERPs I noticed that pages with lower PR ranked higher that pages having higher PR.

I'm not thinking that content is the king. I'd say that onpage optimization is as much important as offpage. So, people should do both.

 

See if your site is well optimized and you are generating back links[/URL] for the site if you stop doing this then if you website is up in such keywords then it will loose ranking among your competators.

Some links will lapse - forum and blog posts can lapse as old pages get deleted or de-indexed, plus some of the sites you've got links to may just close down, so if you just do nothing, you are likely to find that over the course of time you lose some links. Though of course, one hopes this is more than compensated for by new links that you gain 'organically'.

 

Of course, you would loose ranking because your competitors are constantly building some back links.

 

if your competitor will be active more then you then you will loose your rankling from search engine other wise not

I am always looking to increase links to my pages. One (of many) ways I do this is to place an "addthis.com" button on every page. I find that I get lots of new links that way, plus many more visitors are bookmarking the pages.

 

yes, definitely, besides having quality content gradually lose your position if you stop link building. but how fast you lose it also depends on the competition.

 

I don't think they're link building, but I would bet they're getting a lot of people linking to them, I know I do!

after a time period when you are building links you will find that some of the links are destroyed due to violation or they are due to some or the other reasons. now if you stop building links then you will start degrading your website's rank and thus the traffic.......and according to google if you dont build links you are surely to get nothing from google

I have noticed when I stop building backlinks to a particluar site that my pagerank drops and also my rankings for certain keywords also drop.

 

I think the answer should be yes. As with all sites, the competition is moving more and more to aggressive SEO and if you stop, you will find that they haven't.

In short, stay ahead of your competitiors to be save.
