"Splog" is short for Spam Blog. Spam blogs are blogs that don't provide any real content for users. They exist solely to game the search engines.

These are those programs that build 100's of blogs at a time.
Then a program inserts nothing but ads into each one, constantly.

Not a good practice, and the search engines are getting wise to splogs and starting to ban them.

I don't know if you will be banned for it, but why try your luck? It's anyway a nono-thing to do and I'm positive that guys at Google does not like it. They are banning splog-blogs at Blogger allready and Blogger is owned by Google.

You may never rank in the SERPS, but unless you are specifically breaking the (Adsense) TOS, you won't be banned from adsense. You may, on the other hand find that Smart Pricing is put on your account making your clicks virtually worthless (to you).

What ever happen to making money by offering a good product that customers actually want. There are already to many scams out there and then comes a new one called SBLOGS. I have another word for it but it would be against my good judgement and my respect for my fellow forum members to mention it.

Splogs started when someone created a program to automatically post your ads to blogs.
Then it went from there to people creating entire blog networks full of nothing but useless blogs (no content, nothing, just a blog to post ads to).

And someone created a program to create hundreds of blogs at one time.
Again, blogs with no content, nothing, just blogs created and all with the same ads.
So you create say 1000 blogs, and every day, you automatically update all of them with an ad.

Now google and the rest got smart...now adding captcha to blogs (to post, you have to insert turing numbers, fill out a form, etc).

But you know, people right now, tomorrow, next month and any time in the future...
Will purchase blog submission software, blog creators that create hundreds of blog at once, and other useless crap.
    And too high priced!
Just to make a few cents a day, is possible.
The hype around these products is unreal!
And the blog submission software is now a ripoff as more and more blogs are blocking this crap.
You just end up submitting to blogs that NO ONE READS!
You just end up submitting to blogs that NO SE CAPTURES!

Oh, I could go on and on about idiots who splog, use this crap to market, and so forth.

    So I will repeat....
DOOKIE IS WHAT YOU BUY AND DOOKIE IS WHAT YOU GET!

I sure hope so! I really hate all these damn spam-sites. All they do is pollute the net, dilluting the usefulness of search-engine results by competing with and leeching on the real content. And for the record, I feel pretty much the same about the thousands and thousands of "made-for-adsense" sites full of unoriginal content

I know that may not be a popular opinion here, since a lot of people are probably making lots of money from that kind of sites, and I have nothing personal against you for doing that. But I still think it's a downward spiral and hope google will find ways to stay ahead of (or at least not fall too far behind) all the spam and junk sites.

Personally, I think the definitions of splog here all describe a "type" of splog, but many would consider that a very small subset of the kinds of spam blogs out there. Additionally, some people in this thread seem to have confused splogs (I hate that word, though it is useful) with comment spam.

While not everyone against Spam blogs is what I would call a zealot, there are zealots out there with some very extreme views on the subject. I have seen some on Slashdot go so far as to say that anyone who uses more than one domain for blogging is a splogger.

The subject is far more complex than what this thread suggests.
