Mhh... when I work on critical stuff, I do it on a laptop.

But It is a sound idea to get one for your pc. Just looked on amazon, they sell small ones for around 60$ that have a battery of 30 minutes. Enough time to safe critical data.

A PC is complete only when you have a UPS for it.
Go on and buy a double battery UPS so that it works for 20 to 30 mins without any problem even during power cut.

How often do you face such power outages?

If you frequently face power outages or fluctuations, it would be foolish not to have a UPS.

Maybe I'm paranoid. I've got a UPS for my computer, another one for my screen (it's big and I don't want it draining from my computer power). The computer's a laptop, so if it's UPS runs dead it's got enough time to hibernate.

Then I have a separate UPS for my networking (ADSL router, switch and wireless AP) and another UPS for my print/file server.

That's at home. If this were for work I'd take power management seriously.

I've had to replace too many modems and computers from power surges, spikes, dips, lightning strikes etc. etc.

    It's well worth the investment.
    Look after what you have.

I have a UPS from APC that I bought from my dealer the same time I bought my computer. I think people who use their computers for work or business needs to have a good and reliable UPS, it will be our fail-safe in case something like power shortage happens while we’re in the middle of doing something important.
