I think Yahoo is making some smart moves, like partnering with ABC News. They also have a great messenger, great articles/news, a great finance section, and of course, Yahoo Answers. And on top of all that, they also have a really good search engine. :)

I think people still use the yahoo messenger and yahoo news. Yahoo directory is faded now.

Yahoo is still the most trafficked news site in the world with more than 700 million monthly active users. They need to continue selling everything they don't need and build on what they have. Like Yahoo, Myspace isn't dead either, they just took a few years to find their new niche, which it seems, is music.

Just do a bit of reading (Myspace):

I think Yahoo will survive. It seems like they have been doing ok the last couple of years. They might not be as widely used as they were in the past before Google but every big site has something they are known for that's different. You have to conform to change in order to stay above the curve. They could have easily collapsed but yahoo answers, news, and their messaging system are still very popular. It's easy to become obsolete when it comes to technology. It's cool that Yahoo is still around and are still popular.

I don't read mainstream news any more it's to lame. Boaring. Something like the drudgereport.com or infowars.com is better place to get better news that make you think.

Yahoo is kind of like MSN, Hotmail, and Windows Live.

Not saying everything about Google is better though.

I think with other yahoo features, Yahoo can still survive they only need new things to spice it up.

Yahoo in my opinion will survive but it will have to adapt and diverse into other areas away from the main stream search facility that it has offered for years,2 big things going for it is the fact that it does have a very nice stake in Alibaba and i thing that the founder of Alibaba will buy those shares out for a very nice profit for Yahoo, this will then give them the ability to diverse to survive.

Another thing in Yahoo's favour is the fact that they have some very nice patents that they have and they are currently at the moment taking Facebook to court with the aim of getting a nice payout if they win this court battle and if they win they will licence alot of the most profitable patents for either large one off payments or regular payments ongoing.I feel its this patent arsenal that they hold will keep them afloat.

I don't think so. Because, Yahoo is still good at Email, Messenger, Entertainment portal, Answers etc. They may reducing their staff because of no profits but not because of they are going away.

i think they still can survive but not be big as google or fb, they are lacking new talents and it looks like they are doing what they were doing 10 years ago. its very competitive market and they have to be best in it or develop new directions, which they dont really pursue
