I wouldn't bother. You need way more RAM. I think the minimum is 512.

If you currently running Windows XP, download and run the Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor and it will check if your hardware is compatible with Vista.

If you want to run Premium because of Aero, you will need a minimum of 1gb RAM and 2gb to get smooth performance. With Aero off, 512mb should run and 1gb would be sufficient for the standard day to day work.

Pocessor is fine. You need to upgrade the RAM and hard disk. RAM upgradation is mandatory.

    Funnily,

I've got an HP laptop with similar specs (appart from the extra 512Mb of RAM I added last night). It has now been handed to the computer repair guys. The video card has blown an hour after upgrading to Vista. Maybe just a coincidence but a weird one.

I would say the best thing to run Vista Premuium would be:

    Intel P4 3Ghz
    80GB+ HD
    2GB Ram

that should be good enought to run smoothly.

    He's just annoyed.

I can be annoyed, too. But I am just bored. The new look of the Vista is reminding me of a website page, not a windows explorer manager anymore. And the whole Windows Vista interface is like a full screen Windows Media Player. How sweet.

Actually it reminds me of Aqua. Seems I've been using something more advanced for about 6 years now. Yikes... Took them long enough!

I believe he simply knows that Vista is just a nice looking face full of annoyances, resource intesive, but not real improvements in applications, performance, etc. etc.
