Will using a tool like submitterbot to build up backlinks to sb and directory sites plunge a new website into the sandbox?

Probably. Automated link building tactics should be saved for when you have tons of links,,, or using that on authority pages like businessweek.com / inc.com.... Throwing hundreds of links at pages on those sites can be a good strategy if done right.

But I DEFINITELY WOULD NOT use a tool like that on a brand new site. Start with a few GREAT links and you won't have to worry about a sandbox.

    Many thanks uberfly.

Another sandbox question - would you say that linking to one of my new sites from an existing squidoo lens or blog that I personally own would be OK or is any form of link building from sites that I own also likely to trigger sandbox?
