Will using a .ca hurt overall traffic/SEOing?

I am planning on starting a blog, and I have a cool domain name already but it doesnt quite fit my blog (well, two domains but one is my real name, so I dunno if I wanna use that for a blog) so.. I might buy a new domain

I found a nice short word that would work, but the .com and .net is taken..

If I used .ca would it still rank in other countries just as well as .com/.net/etc???

.ca is geo targeted to Canada and will be very difficult to market, since it will be given a low priority outside of Canada in most if not all cases.

Also, you can't buy a .ca unless you physically reside in Canada.
