Will Untargeted/Unrelated Anchor Texts Hurt My Ranking Chances?

Say if I'm putting together an article at an article directory to link back to my site, is there any harm with putting something like "for the best" as the anchor text, or should I only ever focus on relevant keywords? Thanks!

Unless you are trying to rank for "for the best" you should use relevant anchor text. Not doing so won't hurt you, but it isn't going to help.

Thanks, my reasoning for doing so was because I had already included a an anchor text link with the keywords I'm targeting and it didn't make sense reading wise to use it again, so I figured using it on a phrase like "the best" or whatever would increase likelihood of traffic.

So basically one link juice serving link, one traffic serving link.

You could always have a link to another related page.
