Will traffic increase my search listing.

    Hey folks,

One of my websites revices quite alot of traffic but I have never put backlinks on other sites or promoted it online ect. Its got around from freinds by word of mouth ect.

I have noticed though that since revicing alot of traffic my website has been moving up the search rankings.

Can traffic be causing this? I ran the google analystics and it said there are 0 backlinks for my site so its not because anyone is linking to it.

Traffic to your site won't increase your SERPs. However, the more traffic you get to your site the more likely someone will add a link back to you...which will increase your SERPs. You should use the "linkdomain" command on yahoo to see your back links. Here's an example: linkdomain:www.yoursite.com

Traffic will not increase you SERP but your content will. I think it is possible your SERP improve when you updating your content time to time

If the traffic source is from Google search engine they might adjust your website SERP's for that particular keyword.

P.S: If the visitors becomes interested in your website content they might link to your website pages and that's will increase it for sure ;)

gr8webseller <<< Notice it, not after your trafic ur rank may be dropped, but after dropped your rank your traffic may less than formal. Because Traffic does not play any role in search rankings, but search rankings play major roll in traffic.

Indirectly yes traffic can increase rankings. It is not in Googles algo, as there is no way to monitor this effectively. The benefits from traffic may have been great though such as one way incoming links. You say you have none but google is slow to include this in the index and only updates your links in every so often, however this is only for users searching, incoming links are recognised within the algo a lot quicker.

You say users promote it by word of mouth, well if they do that then you are on to a winner as word of mouth is much harder to achieve than a hyperlink on a forum, blog or website. If their spreading it by word of mouth then I bet that you have even more people making hyperlinks to it. I suggest you wait a couple of weeks to see if it is the incoming links and other SEO factors.

what You think about google toolbar? or GoogleAnalytics? not enough? FireFox :) ? They know much more about visitors traffic than Alexa or any other traffic ranking service. They know how much time user will stay on page and more important how deep they go through Your pages

It is an interesting thought. I have never read all googles terms when downloading the toolbar, firefox or analytics and does it state that google can use this data?

surely if google knew what everyone with a toolbar did then there would be invasion of privacy outrages? I don't know, I haven't researched this area well enough and maybe shouldn't have stated that google can't 'effectively' monitor websites traffic.

    anyone found this out?

Be careful when someone says anything isn't is Google's algorithm. No one but Google's engineers really knows (and they are bound by non-disclosure agreements).

Google has said that there are about 200 factors in its algorithm. Well, we know about backlinks, titles, on-page usage, and several others. That leaves a lot of variables that we don't know about.

As for not being able to measure it, that isn't completely true either. If you have Google Analytics installed, Google is measuring your traffic. If people find you based on Google searches, Google is measuring your traffic.

That is true although not every site has analytics installed so this would lead to discrepancies between the ranking methods. Would a site that didn't have analytics be given an 'average' score for traffic? If this was the case analytics could be used to gain an unfair and inaccurate advantage over rivals.

This is true and a valid point, however the topic is about traffic that hasn't come from google. Traffic that google could not recognise through searches because there were none, this site was found through word of mouth. I do believe google has something in their algo regarding the number of clicks your sites recieve and how long it is before you conduct a search along similar terms or click the result below.

I took it for granted this would not be assumed as fact. Generally I give detailed replies to posts, but if each time I had to type 'I believe this may/may not be in googles algo because nobody knows except google tech guys' then I would be going insane lol. Sorry if it was taken as a factual statement though.

    ya, sure.

If you have high traffic with law bounce rate, you will have benefits of ranking. This is based on page popularity.

If your site get quality traffic, this is could increase rank in search engine. If just bulk traffic, this is no effect.
