Will this work?

I've noticed that it's fairly easy to get backlinks from sites like whois, that present information about any domain/website.

As a result, I've generated a list of 10 such links and placed them on the internet. Hopefully the search engines will follow my links and find these external links that point back to my site.

    Has anyone tried this before?

I've just made a script that will generate the required html for any domain and have place it here:

    http://www.dawjee.com/blg

That page has an example of 10 links to external sites that link back to my home page. I have also posted those links on my external blog.

Is this a good link development strategy?

    HI,
I think you're better off working with web2.0 sites and niche directory sites to create the links using search terms that pertain to your site.

    IMHO,

Well, this tool is aimed at a different area of link development.

10 directory submissions will take time, and I have a feeling that there are many rejections. When I hosted a directory I rejected over 50% of applications because the websites were just junk.

The aim of this strategy is to let any user create 10 pages with backlinks. Though they'll need their own set of indexed pages to begin with.

Yes, I think with directory submissions there is a high rejection rate, but the goal should be to make your site NON-junk so it falls in that good 50%... of course I know many directories pending links become just a black hole whether the site's good or not. The links from the whois pages like you've done I don't think would really get you anywhere, I don't think there's a great harm, but I don't see a great benefit. (Worthless backlinks?). Of course, then I recall at one point in time I had a site where a whois page like that came up higher in the serp's for my name than my main site did...

Lol. Once I was asking for advice on how to promote a tool. And just because the tool I was promoting was in my signature at the time, my forum posts started appearing higher than my own pages!

That page is not indexed because I only started pointing links at it yesterday. It's a bit like the way your blog posts probably take a few days to get indexed.

Given time, and a few links, that whois page will get indexed.
